Some valid points, BUT, remember Opera Mini can be opened and used entirely in Flip Closed mode and takes up less resources as its an OS controlled midlet.

Also the built in browser is likely to be rejected by websites with the message "please upgrade your browser." Mini however will more likely display "normal" websites with a better layout and if you are Wlan and not paying for data (all images/animations turned on!), will give a better browsing experience.

Much better layout in mini, oh and if it does ever crash, as a midlet its less likely to take the phone with it!!

@Enigma-UK,
As i pointed out above Opera Mini is stripped down and optimised for Mobile Devices on the Opera server this is also the reason why it doesn't face rejection problems from some websites. As it is the Opera server that fetches the pages not the actual browser and yes as a Java app it is less likely to cause a problem to the phones OS as you have pointed out as only the java midlet will crash or close.

@Dogmann

Yes, agreed, the pages are "served up" to the Mini resulting in fast loading and layout.

I think both have their plus point and it's down to personal preference. For me having Mini in FC mode is great as I can view sites such as Esato, read topics and reply all one handed, flip closed, much easier for walking along than using a stylus or balancing the phone to use the qwerty in FO.

Likewise, both have things missing which I keep looking for to find they are not there in the settings. I'm sure in the future we will see better support for various features such as smoother plugins/better javascript/java handling and other technologies, and with the increase in the speeds, mobile browsers will have to develop with it. Certainly I look forward to opera 9 on the phone, and opera 4 mini. In fact I'm looking forward to Opera 10 for the desktop which will be the official release competitor for IE7 (Vista version). Although in my mind it is way superior anyway!
