I want to know (and I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone on this) when will the "lesser" bugs be fixed. For example, the P990i houses a great 2 Mpix camera.
But 8 of 10 photos turn out to be out of focus (I'm talking about normal shooting mode, macro shots focus is OK, but normal is not) !
In the past, I had several types of cameras, including SLRs and I think, it's not my hand that causes the focus problem, on the contrary, according to much mentioning of it on the P990i forums, may be a software problem as well.
Next one...is not really a bug, but a feature, that SE has seemingly forgotten about...the last P990i whitepaper and the previous one before that promises full MPEG-4 video recording support. As far as I know, the phone still records to 320x240 3GP, even with the latest (R4A13) organizer firmware. So, what about that ?

Last, but not least...previous UIQ versions were greatly customisable operating systems. What's up with UIQ 3 ? The only customization is themes and a few icons...hardware buttons are very limited in this an please finally do something about that blank space on the main screen in flip open mode :S It's very sad to see that, because WM devices have plenty of information on the "Today" screen...and one doesn't have to switch to it, but just look on the phone. UIQ 3 messed up here greatly...

And yet another feature request...please make programs so they can be closed with one touch (not with taskmanager and such). Again, see WM, they have this for long time now.

P990i could be the very best of smartphones, but SE needs to take the time and effort to achieve this ! (N95 is a strong opposition, but lacks a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard, these two are greatly appreciated among smartphones)

Wow. That's pretty scary. I know that organizations guard their information with their lives but this is a bit much. The motivations are easily understood but I can't help but question the methods. You'd think that it makes more sense to work with the fans than planting a paid staff to acquire information.

Ok... So if they really are watching these forums, then why not sort out all the issues people are experiencing with UIQ3 products that were incomplete at launch and even now are nothing more than a beta test?

Also why lock the system folders apart from a blatant attempt to profit from developer's efforts... That is low, and by the looks of things new applications are very thin on the ground because nobody can be bothered to pay SE for the privelege of developing good software for their poorly developed phones. Oh... Execute in place anyone? I guess they couldn't be bothered. Cutting costs on components for their flagship phone is nothing short of ridiculous! And seems to me to be very badly thought out.

All this after they were nearly 7 months late with p990... LOL!

who are we kidding here? I am sickened by the amount of people who are quick to defend the Sony Ericsson brand... WHY? After all the crap we've endured, why should we continue to support a company who fail to deliver in every department? Have you ever had a problem with your phone sent it to them and got a new one back? Used to be like that in the days or the R380... But then they were ONLY Ericsson back then!

Please don't rush to attack my views, all I want is for people look at this objectively and if they still think SE are the best thing since sliced bread then so be it... But it doesn't hurt to air your displeasure, the worst thing that could happen is that nobody at SE cares. What's new?

THE END

The anti SE alliance anyone? Nah I'm kidding ofcourse...

But I think we should have a petition thread with some demands... like a free exchange when SE release the next P series... if they ever attempt to make a market leading phone ever again!

Or... an immediate end to production and full refunds to all those with phones that they are unhappy with.

I'd happily accept it if they allowed P990 owners to "upgrade" kinda. Like SE offering a greater discount for people trading-in their P990 for another UIQ handset this year.

I'd have to say that as a realist, all common sense tells me that there is now way that they would even offer an exchange of the next "p" series...

That said how many corporate types thinking about profit margins and damage limitation would think to offer disgruntled customers? NONE!

These days you'd be lucky to have a genuinely faulty handset replaced... and even then it would be for a recon unit. So what makes us think that the big green giant is going to treat us any differently because we're not happy with our purchase? Quite frankly we have every right to demand action... Would you buy a supercar and then put up with electrical problems and have it switch off on you in the middle of a motorway? NO!

I just don't think it is in a "business' " nature to be understanding... Look at the NW HD3 fiasco.... AGAIN SONY... They sold lots of them before they ordered a recall on certain Serial no. ranges... And when mine failed they said it was my fault and that I dropped it (of course it was my fault when there is company pride and a £250 music player involved). The arrogance is too much! Customer support should be called Damage limitation fob off!

RANT OVER.

@madmoroccan

I agree with nearly all that you have said and in the early days when these devices were launched and i dared suggest SE had failed to properly test these devices and was using their paying customers as Beta Testers i was flamed big time. I was also assured that SE would resolve all these issues with the next firmware and then the next one etc etc.

I'm afraid I took the easy option I sold my M600 and HBH-DS970 and 1GB M2 at a big loss but this was cheaper then smashing it to bits and sending it back to SE which is what I felt like doing and like many others have now deserted SE and vowed never to buy another one of their products ever.

I also think the only reason SE bought UIQ was they had no choice no one else uses it and it was doing Symbians reputation no good had they not bought i believe their would no longer be UIQ. If SE can ever recover from this only time will tell but many people have had a truly bad experience and will not be so eager to try these type of devices again if ever, so only time will tell. But the next series of UIQ devices will need to be outstanding on launch or IMO that will be the end of SE smart phones.
