As someone mentioned before, just make sure that you don't mind stability problems ! Even some hardened fans have given up on the P990i. If you don't know much about firmware upgrades think twice. Also the battery time is poor compared to wm5 devices ! (measured in hours when using wifi and is only the old wifi standard !) Furthermore if you don't care much about 3g, on a P990i one has to fall back on the outdated gprs because it can't use the by now standard EDGE ! And lastly software is nowere near as easy to come by as with a wm5 or s60 device, otherwise a nice package ;)

Hi Koto,
Just pointing out that i had seen people who live in sunny climates reporting problems with being able to see the screen. Yes you are right Internet experience is a personal thing but i can assure you a full HTML Browser with a D pad and click control of a mouse pointer is also very usable if not preferable IMO and as i have stated many times before i really am not a fan of Opera or Opera Mini but this is just my preference and am not saying this should be everyone else's. Although i do understand that the P990 is now greatly improved from the launch version six months ago but by all accounts it still far from perfect, but then what is besides my N93 LOL. Lastly there is loads of apps available for S60 as it is a much more mature and supported platform by 3rd party developers at this point in time.

Marc

Yes, S60 is more mature and developed when it comes to third party software, but it also depends on ones needs. There are quite a few apps for UIQ3 which fully satisfy my need as a business user.
@mario
About stability I know that I use my phone at my sweet will, multitask and whatever I want without any problems (new fw + smp). If that is not stability then I don't know what else is.
Also wifi may be 'b one' but I use it so nicely. It's fast, reliable and in combination with this brilliant screen (touch screen by the way) and querty gave an unique experience.
But off course it's all matter of personal choice and preference, what is more beautiful than that.
edit: It is true that P990 is not yet perfect. First I steal use swiss manager although not at all carefully as before (lol), and memory leak is much reduced but not solved.

Thanx to all u guys for ur valuable comments...

I'm frm India. But my sis is workin in Dubai nd she use her fon mostly indoors. She's not a new-bee in usin smartfons. Her prowess in usin smartfons can't be under-estimated because, I knw, she use a smartfon as a SMART-PHONE! In short she's not any typical LADY...

She wanted a fon wit QWERTY KB, push email & preferably a touch-screen. And so wat came into my mind was P990i, HTC Herald & E61. E61 lacks cam n no TC. So I ruled dat out. Then remainin is P990i nd DOPOD C800/HTC P4350 PocketPC, both i think available in Dubai.

SE's P-series fons are a rarity in my locality. Most people who buy it are rich men, who doesn't even know how to pair usin Bluetooth. So i had non to ask for comments.

After readin ur comments & considerin several other factors, I think I can com to a conclusion...

» My sis is not som1 who'd tak part in such tech-forum discussions nd so she won't be bothered or doesn't wanna be bothered about frequent FW upgrades. SE is still busy releasin FW's to make p990 stable where as the HTC Herald comes with Microsofts latest AKU (for WindowsMobile, AKU updates are lik XP's service packs) update. As of now I can easily say HTC is mor stable. Wel, HTC wins d round.

» There's a lot mor apps n games for PocketPC's than wats availabl on UIQ3. PocketPC stands equivalent to S60 in availability of 3rd party apps. Also, there's mor bundled apps like Skype, MS Office Mobile nd many mor, in the HTC. So, again HTC wins.

» "The semi-auto pull out thumb KB on the HTC is excellent!". Its not wat I say. Its wat those who r usin the PPC is sayin. I've got a friend in Singapore wit the HTC Herald and he says he's fallen in luv wit d KB! His previous fons wer P910 and an i-Mate JAM. I think HTC hits d pot again.

» 40MB of free RAM!! I can multi-task like hell! HTC wins again.

» As far as I've learned P990i hav a 208MHz CPU nd a hardware graphics accelerator. HTC comes wit 200MHz CPU (safely over clockable to 240MHz) and no accelerator. I think out of box, for video processin & 3D games P990i has d edge.

» HTC has USB port chargin. So she can easily charge her PPC by plugging it to her office pc or her laptop, usin a mini-USB cable. I don't know whether P990i has dat feature.

» SE has a 2MP cam wit autofocus. HTC doesn't hav AF. SE wins here.

» While HTC is just 18mm thick, P990i is 25mm thick. But HTC weighs more at 174gms compared to SE's 155gms. Almost 20gms less. Dunno how to declare a winner here!

» HTC has no 3G, whereas P990i has. Thus, SE is more future proof. SE certainly wins here.

I think I cannot comment or rate the usability factor of SE P990i. But after seeing dedication of u guys, I think its good. Anyway I've got 3days more, to tell her wat to get. I'm gonna ask her to try out both SE & DOPOD before buyin. Any how its she who's gonna spend the money....

If I've left out somethin in my abov comparison pls let me know. Or if the P990i fans wanna throw me out of this forum... i'm sorry, i had to mak a suitable decision, for som1 who's dependin on me.

Why not the TyTN (HTC Hermes, i-mate JASJAM) instead? Although it's slightly larger and heavier than the P4350, it has 3G and a faster CPU. It's a whopping 26 gms heavier than the P990i but the size almost the same. (So close in size that I am re-using my old ICE-20 case for my JASJAM and find that it protects the phone better than i-mate's original case...)

Huh... wat u told is right. TyTN is a better proposition considerin shear performance. At the same time its mor costly & my sis is not on a 3G network to mak use of the 3G radio.
The Herald costs low, its thin n light, has a semi-auto KB (which many TyTN owners, agrees to be a great mechanism to hav).
My sis is also a kinda person who likes to change her handset atleast after 1 or 2 years of usage. So wat I was thinkin was, MS is plannin to release their WindowsMobile Photon OS (the version after Crossbow or WM6) sometim in 2008. So if the girl gets 3G at her place by dat tim & if she feels to get a mor powerful PPC, she cud mak her updation dat tim.

oh.....this forum rocks.....i was comparin batween p990 nd e61 as i was confused wat to buy......i guess the HTC brand wins over the crap e61 in 3rd party apps as i used them a lot on older s60 fones.....WM5 is better than symbian platform as both p990 nd e61 r different types of symbian fones....i would rather opt for a WM5 fone......thanx again
