i have updated my k800i via seus twice now and it has not erased/reset my settings... i still had my ringtone set to the way it was before the update was done.

i agree with al_1982a
just backup your contacts to your mem card then do your flash. you will lose everything but the phone will run better.
For example i had a fault with my RSS reader and thought it would be fixed with an update - which it was - but only until i restored my backup.
Edit:to check fw on m600 just press "more" on the main screen then press "status" scroll down and you will get version numbers for phone, bluetooth, organizer and CDA

where did you get the phone from? is it branded in any way? branded firmwares have different version numbers and updates usually come out slightly later.
best thing to do is backup your phone and try the update - it will tell you if you have the latest firmware. Then i would put all your setting back in manually - but you always have the backup file if you get stuck.
