I've noticed a problem that needs attention.
Many people have appliances in their homes - tv's, dvd players, games consoles etc, that can't be turned off completely unless they are unplugged from the mains, with many of these plugged into the same multi-adaptor.
I know its a pain to crawl around on the floor to completely unplug the appliance you are not using - in the corner behind the tv or behind your cabinet - it can be inconvenient - especially when you're in a hurry to go out.
So I think every appliance should be fitted with a simple lamp switch on the cord to make it easier to turn the power off. The type you have on lamps and they should be fitted before they leave the factory. It would help a lot.
The issue of global warming is going to become more prominent in the media from now on - until the situation is critical. I'm expecting to see mass-migration to colder-clilmes in the not to distant future.

but isn't it all linked together, i mean, in some instances water needs to be pumped...
haven't we got to look at all aspects of our lives in order to save energy... and if all the little men and women in the street jump up and down enough perhaps the governments will listen

@Lesleyanne
Its easier for some people than others.
Personally, I don't drive and we don't use gas in our household and I walk to work everyday so I am a low carbon-emitter
What annoys me is seeing one little person driving to work in a 2 tonne Range-rover. Whats that all about?

^^^^ yes mate - agreed! and even worse is when you see his/her bf/gf pull up next to them in their sports car.... (couldnt have shared a car could they?)
i think im digging out my bike this week...
i wanna be a low carbon emitter too
ps goldenface - your idea about the plugs and swtiches etc sounds very good mate... little things like using heating timers are a must (rather than forgeting its on and leaving it all weekend

@leeboy
Thats true. 'Every little helps' to use the saying of a well known food chain.
Another funny thing I found out.
There is a lot of building work going on in Liverpool and Manchester at the moment - the cities being roughly 35 miles away from each other down the M62.
But the same building company is employing workers from Manchester to work in Liverpool and workers from Liverpool to go and work in Manchester!
So hundreds of workers pass each other every morning to travel 35 miles to do the same job
Bonkers!
And another thing! Now that they have got so many people to leave their cars at home and use the trains - they have only gone and put the train fares up to keep them away again.

@goldenface
yeah, point taken. like you I personally concentrate on keeping emission down... walking or running when it would have been so easy to jump in the car. and sometimes it feels as if it would have been safer when those huge 4-wheel drive things thunder past me.
trouble is, some people don't even realise that they are wasting energy. it doesn't cross their mind that "turning off" might be a start.
have friends who have just built an extension to their kitchen... they have installed enough halogen downlighters to see a jumbo jet in – just crazy, and i told them so.

Now that it has been accepted that Gobal Warming has been caused by us pesky Humans I think certain priorities need to change - such as redirecting some of the bilions spent on Space exploration to rectifying the problem - a problem that has been going on for that past 200 yrs.
Although how we are going to reverse 200 years of pollution in a few decades is anyones guess.

A new study says global warming will continue for centuries, no matter what we do. The grim news comes from an international panel of scientists sponsored by the United Nations.
