UIQ 3.1 is the latest release from UIQ and further extends configuration options when creating new mobile phones and provides added benefits in both usability and flexibility. The new UIQ release is based on Symbian OS v9.2.
Broader flexibility in softkey configurations
The broad softkey flexibility allows mobile phone manufacturers to configure the placement of softkeys and thereby be able to apply a softkey and key setup according to their product portfolio. Phone manufacturers can choose to use the general industrial standard for softkey layout, where there is no separate back hardware key, or use a layout where there is a separate hardware key for the back command, and the softkeys are efficiently used.
SVG Tiny, Scalable Vector Graphics, for a richer graphical experience
The support for SVG graphics has improved the graphical capabilities in UIQ. The SVG Tiny 1.2 Player instantly displays high-quality static images at any resolution, and runs animations smoothly. SVG Tiny is suited for building rich mobile applications. SVG contributes to a richer user experience where, for example, animated SVG icons can be used as application icons in the Application launcher.
Task list facilitating user navigation
The new Task list is launched at once when you hold down the menu key and it displays the last used applications. The Task list makes multi-tasking easier by providing the user with a simple way to navigate between applications. The content in the Task list can be customized by phone manufacturers

i think if version 3.1 offers "soft key" placement enhancements it would do wonders for UIQ.. the biggest issue i find in the core of the UI is that the key mapping isn't logical enough and certain things are burried to deep in the menu settings.. this is a step in the right direction...

This is consistent even with Nokia when they release their updated pack of S60. Only newer phones released after the update would normally have the latest update pack.
Anyone notice their calendar is now called Agenda in its 3.1 update?

IIRC, the original UIQ 3.0 calendar was also called Agenda, I think

renamed it.
