@Max Wedge,
Firstly there is no need to quote my whole post from less than two posts above that's just plain stupid IMO. Secondly if you don't realise what S60 3rd Edition is capable of I'm not going to waste my time trying to educate you. The Nokia phones you quote are old and were trials by Nokia with Touchscreen interfaces. Besides S60 being both fast and stable and having loads of 3rd party apps they don't suffer memory leaks that are not hardware based but due to and (excuse my language) crappy and badly written and developed software not even firm SE UIQ supporters dispute this FACT. If you love UIQ3 and SE good for you i doubt i will ever buy another SE smart phone again. My N93 has over 22mb Ram on start and was an improvement over the 18 it started with it also has a great choice of 3rd party apps should i need or want them including a proper Skype, Google Talk and MSN clients for both talk and IM free over WiFi or with only Network Data charges over 3G or GPRS. Oh yes and lastly my N93 takes just over 22 seconds from start up where as the P900 is over a minute and i have no need to reboot my N93 nor constantly download firmware and wait anxiously for the next nor reformat my hard drive and all the other various absurd things you are expected to do to make it run smoothly not forgetting whats the point of a backup tool if you can't re install a back up without causing problems.. My N93 is fast in everything it does bar opening the gallery and the Safari browser is in a different class to Opera or Opera mini. Plus go over to My Symbian and see just how many people have already dumped there P990's and even more are now getting ready to to get the ultimate business smart phone the Nokia E90 with 80mb RAM free after start up for the user and proper usable qwerty and a big screen . If you going to compare Os's do it in the present and forthcoming devices not the past. The final proof of how great UIQ3 isn't is the P990 highest rate of return for any SE device what an honor for a flagship model and look of the prices of P900,M600 and even the W950 with a 4GB hard drive if you are selling any of these even unbranded and brand new you will be lucky to get Ģ250 and most are now going for Ģ200 says a lot roughly 50% depreciation in under 6 months the market has spoken and to most but SE 's still loyal devotees most people won't touch them.

Marc

Quote:a touchscreen phone gives you so much more.

But it also give you more trouble like killing or injuring yourself while trying to use it with both hands when driving, standing in the bus or walking down the street. Or seeing a "blank" screen when in sunlight. Or give ulcer for always trying to remember to be careful not to break the LCD screen.

I generally don't participate in these kind of arguments, because I beleive every single user has his/her personal preferences, and it's pointless to argue over other's.
But as this seems rather interesting where it comes to TouchScreen vs Non Touchscreen (and i prefer touchscreen so much that i don't think you can call a phone a "smart-phone" unless it's got a touchscreen), how about make ourselves a comprarison list of which device is not capable of doing a certain thing, where we'll see which one is better (no personal attacks of-course:))
Let's start with this:

1. Let's say u're goin somewhere and you don't know the exact location (like beside a shop and so on....) try making a drawing sketch of the direction of ur exact location by a non-touchscreen phone.

2. On an application like VNC+ where you need to scroll through the whole screen for a better view of ur computer, try doing it faster by buttons rather than scrolling through touch-screen. and comment which one do you think is waaay more convenient.

now shoot something that a non-touchscreen can do and a touchscreen can't.

P910 symbian system was perfect imho

the new uiq which is used with m600/p990/w950 is just rubbish
works sooooo much slower, many usefull features have been removed.
i'm quite positive this was my last SE symbian uiq phone.

Quote:t is also MO that SE had no choice but to buy UIQ as no other manufacturer is interested in using it

lol..i love this...what do you call Motorola Dogman??? LOL

SE is gonna launch a series of UIQ devices, both with TS and withou it

Motorola is gonna launch a series of UIQ devices both with TS and without it, the first being the z8, the first UIQ device without touch-screen

More companys are rumored to join UIQ soon

So, poor UIQ is really bad

And Dogmman, yes, there was untill recently software limitation on s60 that prevent the use of touch screens, much like old UIQ didnīt support phones without touch screens

I agree with the ones that think that a phone doesn't really become a smartphone without a touchscreen, i love my P990 it's so much more capable than my N70 and N90, touchscreen, big screen, jogdial and qwerty that realy makes a huge differense a flexible UI doesn't make a smartphone alone!
