I've had jc002 on mine since it was announced and haven't had
this problem either.
I did have it once or twice when running ED, but that was some time ago.

well its reassuring other ppl have the same problem so it isn't just mine.

but has anyone had longer term implications with this problem in that after 6 months use it fades to black while in use all the time rather than some of the time??

that would be a very annoying problem.. thing is i never experienced this with my first silver k800 with james bond stuff on it. the only difference between the 2 phones seems to be that the james bond one has a black lens cover and the one i've got now has a silver lens cover.

does anyone know how to stop this sleep mode problem from happening because i never had this on my original k800?

I think it's just a software glitch, don't think it would suggest the screens about to fail. I hope, anyway!

My K800 just started cutting out - nothig added to it, same configuration as when I got it - but today it started cutting out and restarting when I am tring to use the joystick. Anyone got any ideas

The joystick was 'sticky' about a month after I got the phone but a clean up with dust off was good enough to correct it. Its a Middle East purchase, fairly certain its a legit Sony.

You know what? I had this with my K800 last year, seen it happen on W850s and W880s........and it even happened with my now comatose T650 prototype.......

On that, my logic suggests it's a possible DB2020 problem, not limited to a particular model(or firmware version).......
