I don't find Vista so much different than XP pro for day to day use.

It does really fly heaps faster on my new vaio than XP did on my (2 year) old vaio, even after a resfresh install

so far I'm pretty happy and have not had anything that wouldn't install or run (although SE pc suite and seus took a bit of fiddling)

haven't really used a mac yet, not since the days in the early 80s when I played a bit with an early apple

Good topic here nanu*1

I was thinking the same. A few years back we bought a top-spec VAIO for the whole family. Top-spec at the time I mean. Now, I don't even think I'll be able to upgrade to Vista before upgrading pretty much all my hardware. I've been considering a Mac too. However, if I ever decide to get one or the other, it would have to be some time in the future, I can't do it right now, it's just way too expensive lol.

Will a Mac live up to these requirements?:

+ A LOT of Web
+ A LOT of music + video downloads
+ Basic word processing
+ Just something damn fast
+ Really good multi-tasking

If it does then I think it would be perfect for me. The only thing I am worried about is running software. It seems as though there isn't much available for Macs

does all that bud and does it very well

software compatability is not a problem these days, maybe 5 years ago but not now. Most software has a mac version, if it does nto there is another program that will do what you want

@nanu*1

I took the plunge about 1 month ago and run it along side my pc laptop and do not regret it. It's the small things that make the difference like you dont have to make your own recovery disks, all done for you, no latches for the screen (magnetic), same for the power lead in case you trip over it. The packaging is the best ever, very very good. No need for virus protection as well ( I still cant find a 64bit vista program yet, Microsofts own Live Onecare only runs in 32 bit!). Does take a bit to get used to OS X Tiger but that is to be expected. So far Win/OS X, both have good/bad points, build quality of the Apple is def. better though. The included remote is great for watching DVD'S/pics/sounds from your bed
