exactly zootzoot,

i've always thought we need to do something like that.

i sepend time in the UAE and the punishments there far far far outweight the crime, therefore people do not commit crime it really is that simple, as zootzoot said, you steal you loose a hand, will stop you doing it again, oh and if it stops you eating and you die so what? you were/are a criminal, i have no time, energy or space for criminals.

and as for our jails getting over croweded? bring back capital punishment.. will sort the problem out, any murderers need to be killed, simple as, i dont believe in turning the other cheek, you hit me, i'll hit you twice as hard back, we need to put fear into the criminals, so they stop and think that the crime won't be worth it, we all know that in this country crime pays! WHAT!? why does/should crime pay? its insane, i don't go out and work 5 days a week to live so some scum can raid a bank a live like a king until his next robbery...

IMO Great Britain isn't so Great anymore, and we need to do something about it.

The issues of crime go much deeper than you suppose. Most studies on crime show that the perpetuators of crime suffer from dysfunction caused by poverty. Fix poverty, and crime disappears. Fixing poverty requires helping those in poverty as well as having an expectation that those who are poverty stricken also help themselves. But no where is there any study that suggests that cutting people's hands of resolves poverty.

Yes it may stop theft, but in such countries, women can be hung for infidelity when they are raped. Such harsh extremes do not engender a loving caring society.

So please don't use these cultures that chop off criminals hands as some sort of shining example of social success.

I recon chopping peoples hands off is a bit extreme, but regards capital punnishment it should be enforced.

If you murder you should be killed, though saying this it has to be taken into consideration of the murder.

the problems with this is that you have to be 100% sure that the offender eally is the offender...
