I can see what Sony Ericsson are doing - go for the mid-range and low-end phones, as that's the price-band that sells the most, thus maximizing overall profits (and certainly helping SE to push into the lucrative Chinese and India markets).
But Sony Ericsson used to be more than - it's Sony, for crying out loud, always known for top-end super-sophisticated technology! There used to be more expectation around a Sony Ericsson phone than around a Motorola, for example, simply because of the name Sony and all that implied.
Samsung have consistently said they're not going to stop releasing tech-heavy phones, even when LG and Motorola were churning out cheapies, and now they're capitalizing on it by the buzz that their Ultra range is generating (though we'll have to wait and see how that translates into sales).
If Samsung can stick with top-end phones, why can't SE?
Maybe it is just a case of a temporary change in strategy (I certainly hope so), but while they keep releasing unexciting phones, SE's brand is gradually losing its gloss.

From my perspective Sony appear to have dropped the ball. I've had a W800i since day of release (18 months?) and as phones go i fail to see anything with the same WOW factor and appeal (i guess the k750i, but i love the look of the W800). The new W880, doesn't seem to be any better in terms of camera, and i'd go as far to say the fact it takes the stupidly small M2 mem card, which is more expensive and has smaller capacities than pro duo's, that this phone is less appealing.. I now have a P990, which to me is an amazing toy, as i need the office/wifi functions, so now the W800 is my back up.. but i don't see me replacing it with any of the new phones.. Just my humble thoughts.. or is there something coming out this year i should be waiting for?
