didn't mean you were spamming!!! That's the "lite"... Expansys ireland, e.g., constantly say "discontinued - only xyz left"... It's a shtick!!! As I said, vodafone here only have started selling it on contract 2 weeks ago and told me in 2-3 months it'll be out on rtg...

They won't stop selling them until they have recovered the cost of making it in the first place!

You'll easily get one although maybe not from a retailer. Due to the hardcore fan base that support this phone you will always find mint condition units on places like ebay, probably with loads of accessories and stuff thrown in for much cheaper. By june the price will be even less with the uptake of nokia's n95 and e90 as well as any Q2 SE releases.

I don't think so, because there's no new p-series phones coming out...

Technically the P990 is about 18 months old, seeing as SE announced it in October 2005, which means the hardware is very much due for an overhaul.
However seeing as it was a year late to market, then you could say we have at least another 6 months before SE think about replacing it. As others have said they want to get a return on their investment, which is much to the detrement of the high end users waiting for the next flagship smart phone.
Unfortunately no-one really knows what SE are thinking. There's no solid news about the replacement, which either means:
o) They've learned their lessons from the terrible P990 launch and will only
announce the replacement when it's really ready
o) There is no replacement on the foreseeable horizon
I'd like to think that they've learned their lesson as the P910 was discontinued in late 2005/early 2006 leaving them without a flagship phone for a really long time.
The only thing for sure is that we'll just have to keep waiting

Agreed; the next SE phone of this type or (better) spec will be a PDA/phone rather than Phone/PDA, think HTC devices etc.
The P990 seems to have been created purely for the P series fanatics who discussed daily their wishes for the successor to their P910/900. We almost "willed" SE to create it, but even after all that, it still doesn't meet the requirements of many, and is fast becoming outdated in spec.
The P990 suits certain individuals, but mainly the "gadgeteers" market - those who want a decent multimedia phone but with business like functions thrown in. Most large corporate phone contracts are blackberry or Windows Mobile devices - designed for seamless desktop integration. The buggy start and lack of UIQ3 software, compared with the current massive selection of WM2005 software or S60 software did not inspire confidence.
The business world as a whole is just not interested in this phone, and SE won't keep bringing out P Series just for a dedicated small market.
Look out for "named" devices moving away from P series, (quasi HTC style: TyTn, Hermes and so on) with emphasis back on larger screens adn qwerty keyboards.
So yes, it may well be goodbye P990, but the secondhand market will be flooded for months to come.
