Isn't the free memory in the Status menu for RAM? not storage?

the vodafone branding only seems to be the logo on start up. There doesn't seem to be any other branding that i can tell, although I haven't put it side by side with an unbranded phone. They haven't put there own icons etc on the phone like my old w900 that i quickly debranded

It's pretty obvious you're looking at a RAM vs Hard Disk Space situation. While your disk space is 4gb in size, you RAM is only 64mb in size, and it gets cut down by the UIQ3 memory management where the applications are run in-situ ie on the memory itself rather that on the ROM causing it to eat up most of the 64mb at start up, so W950 usually has around 22mb at fresh restart as compared to 17.2mb for P990. Your 10mb of RAM space is most probably what's left of your memory with some apps running or after using it for a while without a fresh restart and therefore with the large data you're transferring, 10mb might not be enough to execute your task. I guess this is probably the case. Try a fresh restart where your RAM would be at its maximum, that would work for me in some cases, namely setting hi-res wallpapers which would need a decent amount of available RAM to be executed

as said above, i've just checked and that 10MB is indeed the RAM available not media space

For media space, go to Tools,File Manager then More, Space available
