Don't worry if the connection manager says you're connected to the gprs modem, it doesn't necessarily mean you're connected to gprs, it's just showing the modem connection. To know if you're connected to 3G, simply check if the 3G icon beside the signal strength is on, if it is then you're on 3G, if you don't see it, then you're on gprs. If you still don't get a decent speed, then you should look at your network provider. But before that just try to make simultaneous downloads to see its maximum speed because some servers have limited speed per download due to congestion, so try as many downloads as possible to achieve that 50 kbps

@DevilHell

- For 3G you'll probably need a subscription, a pay-as-you-go will not give you access. Have a look at www.base.be www.mobistar.be and www.proximus.be; they all have a special page for visitors. With Base I'm not sure if you can get 3G already. I am also not sure how easy or difficult it might be to get a subscription as foreigner.

-3G coverage is good in most urban areas so in Liege it should work. Check the coverage maps.

- Do you go to the university? You might be lucky and able to hook up to the local network for free internet access in the student-housing? On campuses there often is also wifi which might be free.

- There are a lot of hotspots. One of the providers is Belgacom, check here:
http://www.belgacom.be/privat[....]Name=internet_access_onthemove

Apart from that, your google search is probably as good as mine...

- Liege is a nice city (though it carries a heavy load of industrial surroundings) with generally pleasant people. Behave as everywhere in cities to be safe. Areas to avoid are also in the line of common sense. Be sure to take the train to visit some other cities!
