8gb works fine.
either you have a fake 8gb with 4gb inside, or your card is faulty.
return it to the place you bought it from.
if it was Fleabay, then this is the gamble you take im afraid. the place is full of scumbags, and only a select few sellers on there sell good stuff

Why dodn't you just try it in a card reader on your PC and see if the card is really an 8gb.

Thanks everybody for the feedback it was just doing my head in talking to SE New Zealand. I bought the pro duo, would you believe, from sony new zealand because I had read about the ebay scams. Got it for a very good price and they told me it was compatible with the p990. Put it into a computer and it reads 7.5Gb, put it in the phone and it reads 3495Mb. Tried using SEUS but it says I have the latest firmware which is:-
Phone: CXC162037 R7A001
Any help (ammunition) to have a go at SE NZ that it is a firmware problem would be great or I will return the return the pro duo to Sony NZ.

I think it must be the firmware, the latest has R9... for the phone version and R5A17 I believe for the organiser version. I have read people are having trouble renaming files on memory sticks.-

Tarjan, people with r5a17 already said their phones use 8gb cards fully, so my guess is that the card is defective, despite being a sony original product

possibly for the same reason a phone tech changed one of my customer's fax machines from manual answer to auto answer, to fix the problem that windows server has receiving faxes on a completely separate modem! (the fax machine wasn't even being used as a fax machine, it's only task was as a printer for the windows server fax software). Sheer incompetence. Assume makes an ASS of U and Me
