Discovered it still happens with shuffle mode off.
Could it have something to do with the software/method used to transfer music?
I normally use disc2phone. But have noticed that you can synth the phone with WMP 11.

The tracks play ok on other devices. And there is no "blank" area. And the track just immediately starts 1-2 seconds into the track, but it doesn't happen with every track.

what encoding do you use? maybe the problem is something to do with the encoding,not with the player,though it may be a problem WITH the player DUE to encoding

But I have tried synching the phone will Media player 11 and loaded the tracks that way and that seems to have solved the problem.

I hav a w850i n iv neva had this problem. There's prob a software issue wid ur fone, take it 2 ur dealer n tel them 2 reinstall the software. If its under warranty, it wil b done free, otherwise ul pay a small charge.
