BlackBerry Messages are completely free. As is PIN Messaging (Peer to Peer). Both use DATA under the BlackBerry Plan and therefore are free...
Admittedly only if the recipient is a BB user. I think i probably have sent no more that 30 texts in the last few months. Every i know either has a BB or i email...or IM.
The Pearl is a good handset, but now try the BlackBerry Curve. Out Monday on O2.
Oh and its coming my way Tuesday already!
But i love the 8800 too

Will have Google Maps UK but not built in GPS in the first model. Camera looks good and Orange will have it but guess, OS will be locked!

Would be nice to see a new pearl with a 2mp camera and 3G-but think that's a way off thing!

I can't believe I am saying this..but I have turned off my K800i and chucked it in a drawer. The Blackberry Pearl 8100 on Orange Business is the most incredible all-round "phone" I have ever used. It is seamless with office email - wireless sync on calendar, contacts and email. You can effortlessly add Gmail accounts, google talk, google maps etc etc. Ok so it is no 3.2 MP Camera but its useable and the screen is good. Even a serviceable media player. - Very impressive!
