Use a banana phone, and let the monkey take that instead!!

In Turkiye, they approach you from behind with a bike or a car, pull your bag off your shoulder and drive away. This is called something like "grab&run" in Turkiye, and this used to be categorized as common theft, not robbery (therefore criminals were charged with lower penalties). Don't know if it's still so, but people still get robbed, and IMEI's are copied to disguise the stolen phones.

edit. They took around 3 US Dollars from every phone in circulation a few years ago. They said this would ensure that all phones are kept under record, and robberies would be prevented. But those guys can easily copy-paste IMEI's, so what was the point of collecting millions of dollars?

in my country the robbers are "gentle".my first mobile was stolen when i was at the gym and the phone was in the so called locker, which in fact there was no locker just a place to hang your jacket on.
they usually steal from camping, trips or clubs. but you won't meet persons or groups of persons who stops on the street and ask for your mobile.

As far as i know, they can easily change IMEI's. They get a cheap, "legally acquired" phone, and then "copy-paste" its IMEI to the stolen, expensive phone. They throw the cheap phone away, and now you have an N95 that is registered as a 3310 on the records.
