I have a P990I and am extremley happy with it. I have to send it to SE to see if theirs an update for it from crappy Orange UK they can put on, apart from that it's great.
I VERY nearly got a K800I, I'm glad I didn't now as I don't really use the camera, just wanted one as a casual use one, wanted Symbian OS and wanted an SE phone, I use it for sat nav all the time and the touch screen is a real boon as is the screen size as is being able to run Tom Tom on it which you can't do on the N95 at present.
I knew I wanted sat nav from the off though hence the final choice for the P990I.
You must ask yourself what you want from a phone to help you decide, the P990 and N95 both have pluses and minuses (can't include the P700 as it's yet to be released and reviewed)

What I WOULD do though is wait until SE have had their conferance this month and revealed their new models as it will help you decide which make to go for. If the P700 is released you may prefer it's form factor over the P990.

Fire up push email and watch your battery drain by 3pm,

lol, I guess I'm not popular enough to need push email! I get about 30-40 emails a day and so have never tried that on any phone.

If you use your phone for car sat nav then you need the battery charger plugged in all the time because the back light is constantly on.

Quickest solution to your probelm is to send the phone to someone like SEunlock I doubt SE will help and I expect it will take ages
These guys did my P990i and my W950i transformed both beyond recognition.

As others have said, it all depends what you actually want it for... the P990 and N95 are very different phones in many respects, as are the N95 and the P700. Personally, for me, I wouldn't even consider an N95 - it's just not a productive tool without a touchscreen. I'd choose UIQ over Series 60 any day of the week. But, then again, if you're not so much after the business features and you need GPS built in, for example, then without doubt you'd go for the N95.

I think the P700 is the best all round device - I'm sure the camera will be a match for the N95's (on quality if not raw pixels) and the combination of QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen make the whole package a lot more useful. Okay it doesn't have GPS, but I'm not going to cry about that - if you want that, get yourself a bluetooth GPS and a copy of Tom Tom and you end up with a better solution than the N95 anyway.

If you dont need really need to do a lot of writing and editing of documents, N95 is certainly more attractive choice with its great multimedia capability.

-N95 Camera is the best on the market (at 5Mp)
-N95 Video recording is excellent with over 4X more pixels than p700 video and twice the frame rate.
- N95 has GPS built in with FREE map of many countries in the world. If you ever need nav on P700 you have to buy additional GPS receiver (meaning another device to carry). And Tom Tom map coverage is limited to mostly europe/us. Tomtom software/maps and gps receiver will set up back at least US$250.
- N95 has built-in 3.5mm jack which mean you can use your own headset without need to plug in another adapter (more gadget to bring along).
- N95 has a standard mini-usb port. P-series dont have which mean you have to carry the proprietary cable when u need to connect to PC. (this made using p-series as a removable drive anywhere out of the question)
- N95 has a much faster processor incl better graphic chip allowing for running of complex app (like web browser) at good response level. And N95 built-in safari browser is one of the best.
- If you need to travel to other countries, N95 can be use anywhere as it has quad-band+EDGE. P-series are triband phone with no EDGE.
- If you are into game, N95 is compatible with the new Ngage gaming platform thus have the possibility to play great 3D game (like in psp)
- N95 has stereo speakers. Good for showing/watching video with your friends.
- N95 has TV-out port. This means you can show your glorious photo/video immediately on the tv (without needing first to convert compatible format and burn to disc). P-series has no such capability.

But seriously Mib, you're sacrificing a huge amount of usability (in the touchscreen and Qwerty keyboard) for, well, that list above? Not really much there, is there?

The GPS - yes Nokia's is free, but it's not actually up to much. Tom Tom is one alternative on the P700, there are others, and they're all better for the purposes of actually using a GPS (ie, to navigate with).

Processor, graphics - the differences in speed are minute and mostly grey area, lost in the UI and software variances anyway.

The Camera - the N95 is best on numbers, but quality? I very much doubt it. With the kinds of optics these phones have, the supposed 1.8mp difference between the two is no difference at all. Again, it's a subtlety that gets lost in software and image processing ability. Video, sure the N95 is better, but that's low on most people's wants.

All of these details add up to very little compared to the massive difference the P700's input capabilities bring to the party. With a touchscreen and proper keyboard, the P700 can do all the fun stuff that looks good on paper and be a really useful and productive PDA, and that's where it will always win out over a good chunk of the market.

@Boinng

Can you please get past this it has to have a Touchscreen rubbish, it may have to have one for you and for many others but it doesn't for everyone fact. There are more people using smart phones that are non touchscreen then touchscreen users, if your assumption is correct how can this be so? they can't all be wrong can they?

A touchscreen is only essential if that is what you want or need if you don't they are worth less and because they are a touchscreen they suffer from certain deficiencies and just can't match visibility and performance you may not like it but that is also a fact and the price you pay for having a touchscreen.

Data entry is another one where different users want or need different options, on my P910 i always used the on screen keyboard and found this to be the fastest and easiest for me. Personally i don't like the P990 qwerty keys at all which is only my preference. I used a bluetooth keyboard the SU-8W which was with my N93 like using a mini Laptop. My current E61 has the best Qwerty keyboard i have ever used. But that is just what i want and my preference i am not saying it has to be anyone else's but i certainly don't need a touch screen and especially not to use Tom Tom.

The things that really decided how good a smart phone is is its functionality performance ease of use and most important it's stability. Not every one is going to want or need it to do the same things as priority. Each user will have their preference and choose accordingly all this mines better than yours is irrelevant only what suits each user and their needs is important and that the products available have quality.

I really hope SE announce tonight some new UIQ devices that are launched before the end of the Year and something to really desire once more and they better be nearly perfect on launch also.

Marc
