Hi nanu*1!

just waiting on a car holder now for my W950i!

I was wondering if you had tried walkabouts with your W950i and TomTom running to check out battery life.

My old Tungsten T3 used to give about 70-90 minutes before it shut down services such as bluetooth....

I was wondering because walkabouts might be useful sometimes, for example, in London using public transport.

Hi !

if you want to install your Pioneer AVIC X1BT in my car, then I will road test it for you !

I did look at a Halfords offering that cost £999 or thereabouts !

I use my Nokia E70 with tomtom 6 and a Sirf III chipset BT receiver.
I have had a few dedicated units and to be honest the screen makes no difference because I never look at it .. I just do what the voice tells me.
Personally I think GPS systems will end up like mobile phones in cars where you cant look at the screen while driving, to me that's just as dangerous (if not more so actually) as talking on a phone

@lamont: I had the AvicX1R - got rid of it in the end as I thought it had some basic faults, interested to know if they have sorted any of them in the mean time. Is it still the case - that unless you have pre-programmed a route you need to leave the DVD in for the navigation to work? And can you add your own POIs yet? Such as the PGPS world camera database? I loved the integration/screen size/looks of the avic - but the issues mentioned above led me to get rid of it.

In reply to the original posters question I believe the TomTom One is fantastic piece of kit. Small, great user interface, and @ around £150 you really can't go wrong. Stick the above mentioned PGPS World camera database on it and it is also does an excellent job at performing as a speed camera detector. If you have any specific questions on the TomTom One then I will be more than happy to answer them.

Thanks to all for their comments and advice about which GPS !!

I went for Tom Tom for the W950i and will change to a different system if and when necessary ! I got the Sony Ericsson phone holder for the car, but didn't fancy screwing it to the dashboard

... so I super-glued the base to a base plate for a suction arm..

Maybe it looks a bit untidy but it does the job well and is firm and strong...

nearly all assembled....

now ready to put in the car ...

now plotting the route to Wembley !

I also have the cigarette power lead for the Holux unit and a double adaptor for power...

When I park up, all is easy to removed and store away !

Thanks again !!

hi nanu*1!

I forgot to mention that I had a FM radio transmitter too so I can play music through the W950i, and then launch Tom Tom and hear the directions or alerts over the radio!

I have a 3 socket adaptor that does allows power to the W950i, FM tarnsmitter and Holux !

UPDATE - When the instructions kick in, the music stops from the W950i and doesn't restart automatically.... So I think an FM transmitter for listening to W950i music and Tom Tom don't work together..

Thanks again!
