I think it does take competition seriously, but takes a long term view. They aren't afraid to lag behind in the high end while they build up maketshare in the mid and low end of the market.

That's long term marketing, and very competitive because it shows how serious they are about becoming market leader.

K750 was a big hit. It was the phone that surprised the most the first time I tried it. The others have been good, but the surprise effect has not been quite as drastic. I hope P1 can have this effect on me.

Indeed SE has been the best seller in the UK for sometime now, We tend to buy more PAYG phones than in other countries and SE PAYG phones seem to attract decent subsidies and appear very quickly on a PAYG basis.
W & K series devices have weak competion over here seeing as they are so attractively priced.
One of the things i dislike about Nokia is that ALL N & E series devices are never available on a PAYG basis, forcing UK users to obtain them on contract or at the extortionate sim-free prices!!

First experience with was using a friends t68i.sure it was ahead with colour screen way ahead of nokia 8310 at the time but never won me over.the phone that really really put on MY MAP was the t610 .but the masses only woke up to the k750/w800 duo.

well as far as my place is concerned, i don't think se is much popular...
if we randomly take 100 people and count their brands,
nokia=80
samsung=6
moto=5
lg=5
spice, se etc. =4

the brainwashed nokia imps!!! Oh well there's always hope that they'll wake up to reality one day and realise there are other brands just as good and often much better...except samsung lol i cant stand those had bad experience with one already and hate it.

those figures are a bit out buddy.... Nokia Market share is around 35%, not 80% And their next biggest rival Motorola's marketshare has slumped (probably becuase it's being grabbed by SE).

Sony Ericsson have increased their global sales by 60% over the last year.

SE became big because many lost ericsson fans and user found their way back home.

after the W800i i haven't seen any SE model that had abit of a soul, something old ericsson phones had.
i hope the T650i can bring that feeling back

T650 has soul. I agree with you partly, though W810, W880, S500, K810 and P1 have "soul" (style) in my view.

They're still almost non-existent in the US Cingular only carries the "new" (sic) W300 and W810. T-Mobile USA only carries the GSM network card for laptops

(Good thing there are quite a few quad-band + EDGE devices from and they're available SIM-free via importers.)

Motorola's and Samsung's rule this personal-use market, while businessmen/women all carry RIM Blackberry's. Hardly anyone has Nokia's any more, though they were everywhere in the TDMA days of 10 years ago.
