I tend to agree. Ericsson is the real "technology partner" in the SE relationship.

Well, ericsson´s contribution in terms of technology is more like communications and etc. I believe the media part depends more on sony and if u consider that

is only growing today because of its ´walkman´ (sony´s brand, interface and design) and ´cybershot´(all sony again, the pictures we take are called ´DSC something´ remember?) lines, ericsson pretty much owe a lot to sony. Bluetooth (ericsson) and p800 (ericsson) were cool and everything but in terms of mobile sales, ericsson owes more to sony. Even T610, which moved people´s attention towards

had its design only made possible because of sony´s help.

ON multimedia it's true, you convinced me
I guess they both have valid expertise to add to SE.
Up until K750, the camera modules weren't Sony (except probably S700). K750 was the first SE phone to use a Sony CMOS camera module. And AF too. So yes the Sony influence is there.

I don't quite agree with the idea that technology goes one-way in the SE joint venture.
Walkman technology is one, and we'll soon see phones with BRAVIA brand screens, which I believe aren't just a marketing coup, but a true tech transfer from Sony to the SE consortium.
I think both companies Ericsson and Sony have a lot to gain from this joint venture.

Ericsson, or at least the people at SE who originated at Ericsson, really are still leading the venture as far as I can see. All the technology is demonstrably Ericsson in nature - the standard phone UI is a direct descendant of the software first seen in the Ericsson T68 (and later "Sony" Ericsson T68i). Walkman phones may not have come along till later, but that didn't stop the P800 having a fully-featured MP3 player with memory card support, and the development of that phone started years before the joint venture. Bluetooth is Ericsson of course, and many of the other standard features began in earlier Ericsson models (the built-in email client for example, complete with periodical downloading etc, first appeared in the T39 and R520 I think).
Sony's main contribution has been marketing and branding - there's no question that the Walkman brand has helped SE's music models really stand out against competing products, and in all fairness it's often the only real difference between SE's offering and any other. Of course it's reciprocal - arguably SE's sexy Walkman phones have done far more for the Walkman brand than Sony's own "proper" Walkman stand-alone players, none of which have exactly killed the ipod overnight. BRAVIA is just another silly Sony brand that SE are going to cash in on shortly - of course the BRAVIA phones will have no more in common technologically with a BRAVIA TV than any other phone model by SE or otherwise, but they'll carry the name and that will make them stand out of the crowd.

Sony camera technology (as I mentioned, K750 and on have Sony modules) is making it's way into SE (not just branding). And Ericsson lost all their mobile phone manufacturing infrastructure in the big phillips failure, which is why they joined forces with Sony in the first place. So SE uses Sony engineering expertise laced with Ericsson UI, Ergonomics and Telecommunications expertise.
I do think both partners have particular technical expertise. Sony is not ALL about marketing, that's just one of their strengths. They are a recording conglomerate after all!

the basic difference between sony and sony ericsson is that the phones bearing the name sony ericsson **** are manufactured by swedish company ericsson and marketing is done by sony of which a good example was seen through the release of very popular k800i carrying the CYBERSHOT brand belonging to sony.(a 50/50 venture as described earlier)
that should be enough...
otherwise refer to wikipedia & google.

It's not as simple as that. Sony Ericsson is a separate company in it's own right.
Sony Ericsson is responsible for the design, marketing and sales of SE handsets all on their own, not the parent companies. They outsource most of their manufacturing, and little of it goes to Ericsson. The parent companies themselves supply directors (ie the bosses) and money (via shareholding) and take money (dividends), that's about it.
Ericsson got out of the handset manufacturing business years ago and their core business is now in telecommunications. Sony licenses multimedia technology to SE, Ericsson licenses telecommunications technology to SE, but SE has to pay for it (admitedly they would get preferential treatment, but only when it doesn't affect either Sony or Ericssons main business).
And, if SE doesn't think the technology it's parent companies are offering is suitable, it will go elsewhere. For example, not using ATRAC in their music phones. SE is rather more than just a handshakebetween Sony and Ericsson.
