You think thats bad? In the office where we rent our desk, the IP1Magazine guys have 2 PC's that are 2.8Ghz P4's with only 256MB RAM, it's shameful.

you need to know what mobo you have, and what processor that arwe currently supportes. if you can give us the make of your mobo, we could probably find some better proccessor for you.

try to get the name of the processor are you sure its athlon 1600?

EDIT:

Good advice from govi there.

As mentioned already, your biggest problem here is lack of memory I think. All versions of MS flightsim are CPU intensive but in my experience the biggest problems occur due to poor graphics capability and not enough memory.

I'd bet that if you upgraded your current PC to 1Gb of memory and installed a half-decent graphics card, you'd see a considerable improvement in performance for FS2004 and even FSX.

Sorry, bit off topic there! As for upgrading your CPU, whilst I'm a hardcore AMD fan, Intel have the edge at the moment both with their core duo and higher end processors so I'd probably go with them right now. This would mean buying a new motherboard as well in your case but you can get some very good boards at reasonable prices these days.

I've always liked intel better... but that's probably because I use my computer for programming, encoding and stuff like that... If I played computer games then I would maby use AMD.

btw, I know this one is old, but it's a classic: http://youtube.com/watch?v=M7XosLKUJEE
