Basically its argue with petty little govt clerks and corrupt bastards with aid organisations in the vague hope of getting help. Which at this point theres a snowballs hope in hell.

The failures in government happened at all 3 levels.

Mayor Ray Nagin is an idiot who first failed to realize the need to evacuate. It's not like Katrina "came out of nowhere," there was ample warning. He also failed to realize his own city's high poverty, meaning most of those 450,000 people had no means of their own to leave.

Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco is also an idiot who failed to step in with her state's resources and National Guard units. She couldn't be more blind to the realities of New Orleans' situation. In 2005, she said the press, "I believe we are prepared. That's the one thing that I've always been able to brag about." BTW, she's canceled her plans for re-election.

President W is an idiot for many reasons, including his sloth in mobilizing FEMA and the military following the failures of the local and state governments. Not to mention the blind eye he turned to the squalor of the Superdome and elsewhere.

And whoever kept New Orleans in its geographic location all these decades is an idiot that doesn't understand such basics as geometry, water flow, and gravity. Look at this side-view cutaway of New Orleans from Wikipedia. Why is everyone so shocked at the flooding? The city was built and expanded in a basin that's underwater

One of the commissions studying this problem came to an obvious conclusion. Don't build in areas of obvious impending catastrophe. And if you do, don't expect the government to bail you out when the next storm comes. Sorry to sound so cold-hearted, but this is a clear case of an ounce of prevention equaling a pound of cure.

And shame on New Orleans' not-so-upstanding citizens. The looting I can understand, even forgive - if the looters took essentials. But instead, they were stealing fashion clothing, high-end electronics, automotive "bling," etc. Give me a break.

To the OP: Very sorry to hear about your terrible situation I can't comprehend the magnitude of your suffering and that of your family. And this is indeed a shameful example of our government's failures in caring for its own people I sincerely hope you and your family find the health, happiness, and livelihood you clearly deserve.

And thanks for highlighting the biggest reason goddamn new orleans. I lived in mississippi point cadet the area was totally destroyed in katrina. Yet all hear about is new orleans an hours drive to the west. As to why was there thank the goddamn govt stupidly took a contract job with them. And stayed after because before katrina it was a nice area.
