> Did anyone ever use pagers before mobiles?
Bookmark topic
I remember owning quite a few pagers before GSM mobile phones took off here. Texting to an alphanumeric pager using a fixed line was cool but a pain at the same time. I'm not sure how many people here remember that.

i used a pager before mobile & at one stage had both in my pocket always.
actually my boss gave his pager to me coz most of the clients are paging that number number..
but when gsm mobile got introduced, i bought one on the first day of the launch, i was never interested in analog mobiles..
since the mobile is my personal one, i had to used the pager for some time & i never agreed to give my mobile number to the clients..
infact i was the first to own a mobile in the company & my boss also used a pager while i use the gsm...
it was fun..but within few months boss also bought a mobile to come to my standard..haha..
i used a motorola numeric pager & i was really fasinated with how it works. no wire & in the middle of the sea also i am receiving pages.. also how small it was.. i never imagined a time like these now.. as gsm mobile is doing so many things i never wished to have those days...
but i never underestimate technology now..

@nic - Never knew that SWATCH had this thing (pager-watch) . . . never reached the SWATCH display-rooms at my end . . .
The Swatch "beep" Pagers were mainly sold in the swatch own stores before 1999 the only stores in the uk were Cardiff Covent Garden and Oxford st, Although you could get them from their headoffice in Eastleigh
Thanks

@nic - Thanks for the INFO . . . but during that time (1999) the ONLY latest models (then) that were released were those of the :scuba editions and chrono ones (in different casings/themes) . ..

I had a job for which they gave me a beeper and a phone credit card for payphones. The beeper would go off and I'd have to decide if it was important enough to pull off the road for the first available payphone or if it would keep until later. What a pain in the ass! Certain numbers were important, like the boss, head of sales, etc. Then there were customers that just needed hand-holding. Sheesh, save that for some guy sitting at a desk! I remember marveling at how I'd always be in touch, reachable no matter what. What a schmuck I was!

you haven't lived in this country, haven't you? you have no idea how many things are going wrong...
here it has been considered useless, hard to use and very expensive too.at the time they were cheap,it was considered outdated. don't blame me...here you can find parents today who don't know what "internet" is !!
