So does this mean that UIQ 2 is better than 3??
No.
The limitations of the P990 are mostly in the hardware, not the software - in principle, UIQ3 (and the newer version of Symbian it runs on) is more powerful, it's only the type and amount of memory used that has let it down, together with a few immaturities in the firmware. The P1 should be a much better device, with much more memory available.
As for which is better, P910 or P990, I can't answer that directly as I don't have a P990, but I can tell you that I've never been tempted to swap my M600i back for my old P910. With the exception of the camera, the M600 simply does everything better, and faster, than its predecessor - regardless of many apps it may be running at once. With current firmware I don't think the multitasking is an issue at all - as a random test I just had some music playing while I browsed opera, checked for emails with the messaging client, and had an ebook open in mobireader at the same time, and it didn't skip a beat - I'm sure I could have opened up a few more apps if I'd wanted. On the P910 I'm pretty sure the music would have been stuttering at least.
I think the UI of UIQ3 is much better designed for multitasking anyway - for instance, if I'm creating something (like a new message, or a calendar entry, or a task etc) and I have to switch away quickly and do something else (like answer a call), it will still be there, open and ready for editing when I come back to it later. In the P910 and its predecessors, the message might be saved as a draft, but I'd have to re-open messaging and click through into the drafts folder to open it up again - and some of the other things might be lost entirely.

P910 is a better multitasker than the P990, like the n70 is a better multitasker than the n95...both Nokia and SE made the mistake of putting only 64mb of RAM with their first (and not so first) Symbian 9.1 devices, ignoring this OS is much more RAM demanding than old Symbian 8.x
Has usual, only now we are seeing devices with a proper ammount of RAM like the E90, P1 and N76
Even so, the new devices have enough new features to make most of us live with limited multitasking without too many problems

Actually in terms of some business work P990 does job better because it's not closing apps. Like copying text to message, notes and office - you can leave all open and come back to each through task manager: all the apps are open in the place where they were left. At least I'm using P990 this way and it's great. P910 - which I also loved - was ALWAYS closing apps, so each time I had to open it again.
Of course P990 has drawbacks, but personally I would never go back.
Besides - Symbian 9.1 gives you 3G and WLAN what is cruical for me. The internet works. No prob. with email. P910 was loading big mail like 0.8 MB long enough to fall asleep.
But it's true - memory leaks like loosing 5MB in 24 hours is disaster.

Yes, in that sense the P990 is capable, I myself have had 8-11 apps running simultaneousIy and flawIessIy. But that usually lasts about 1/2 a day after uptime because when the memory leak settles in, we can say sayonara to multitasking

mmm....I did notice the memory leak thing too.
Maybe if this issue is resolved, we can have a better P990, or at least, one that works good with its limited amount of RAM !

Yes, my old P910i was able to play the music player and the Opera browsing both at the same time. Made a C format, updated the sw and still can't do that.
this means p990 multitasking is crap. i can with my m600: send a file via bluetooth, minimize it, play the same mp3 that i'm sending in background and i still can navigate on internet
i also called someone and while talking with the receptor i was searching the net for something he was asking....

Of course we can do it if it's just that, even after 3-4 days uptime. C'mon, it's not THAT bad.
