@maggflodd

Your laptop beats the sh!t out of mine then, mine doesn't even last half and hour

My W900i lasted me a whole day in NYC shooting a couple of hours of video and around 260 pics. This is when you need your phone to last more than a few hours.

If all phone manufacturers thought people were happy to let their phones last no more than a day, just think how good it would be for them.

I've had one of the first release p990s and have seen it through its various firmware updates. It's always worked ok for me and you don't buy the first instance of a platform without expecting bugs. I expect the P1i to be as solid as the p910 was purley because it's a mature platform. I only get a couple of days out of a battery, but then I have WiFi and Bluetooth running full time and they don't seem to be kind to the phone's power consumption. I've always used my p phones with the flip removed which deals with the one handed problem.

The n95 is a first again and we have to expect some issues, I've always suspected that one motive behind high prices was to limit sales while issues are ironed out. That may have been the same for p990. The n95 lacks a keyboard and a touch screen which would seem to make smart phone features hard to access. I really don't need GPS in my phone that badly.

The iPhone is a nice idea, but maybe the second version when they've got basic features like 3G and a removable battery sorted. I will never buy a device without a removable battery, especially not an Apple after previous iPod issues.

There are people posting here who will make a big deal out of small issues and don't understand that they should avoid cutting edge devices from any manufacturer if they value reliability. I expect the iPhone to be unusual as a new phone platform that's rock solid.

The P1i will be my next phone for sure unless there's another p anouncemnt June 14th. I've owned every p phone since the p800 and now 4 chargers, a watch and 2 headsets tie me to SE.
I felt that the m600 interface was far better than the p990's and welcome the platform switch. It felt like one PDA / phone device, not a PDA with a phone rattling round inside it like the p range always has.

Buy whichever phone you like, just don't run around rubbishing other's choices to make yours look smarter. You just land up looking like a child in the process.

@Aware

The N series my get more attention but with out a doubt the E series devices have the best build quality and functionality by quite a long way the E61 battery is truly awesome the only device i can run Tom Tom on without the need to attach an in car charger which never fails to amaze me.

Its not the P1 that should be compared with the iphone, even less the P990, but the W950 sucessor to be presented on the 14th

LMAO

I think we need to invest in new pieces of crap.

The iPhone menus are stunning though but like someone said the battery may be a problem. We'll have to wait till the first reviews come out but I applaud Apple for taking mobiles in a new direction.

Is that the best you can come up with? Better in what ways? It is using 4 year old technology and still screwed up.

Anyway, as or the battery life in the N95, has anyone considered that it is only a 950 mAh battery? The E61/E61i is 1500 mAh, with various other sizes thrown in in various phones. I am lucky to get almost 4 hours out of my 17 inch MacBook Pro. My dedicated Garmin GPSmap 60 CSx will give me only 12 hours straight. I can get about 36 to 40 hours out of my N95 simply by killing unnecessary processes, or not amazing your friends with the cool GPS thingie. People complain and complain and complain about the battery life but for the most part it is not much worse than any other phone with a comparable size battery. As for build quality, take a quick look at the M600i. A thin piece of crap. It is an electronic dust bowl. I can't remember one SE phone that did not have the ability to capture any and all dust thrown its way.

The bottom line is, you pay your money, you take your chances. Nokia has it problems but at least you can count on Nokia to fix them within a year as opposed to the still thriving k800/k790 threads, still thriving P-series threads, and the hope to quickly die M600i threads.

thanks for all the posts...basically i started this thread because of a few things. my p910 needs to be replaced soon and i've been holding out on the replacement coz i am not sure if i'm sticking to p series (having owned p800 and p910 and previous SE phones before that) or wait for p1i or iphone. i believe the n95 is out of the list mainly because of preference (i got my fiance an n80 a couple months back, and i felt my over a year old p910 was better and i wasn't used to nokia interface)....so this leaves me with iphone, p1i and p990.....and i have a bit of a tight budget, around $500 to spare for a new phone....so granting these are the circumstances, which would you pick if you were me? wait out or go and buy the p990?

@bangsters

Well recent reports of the P990i with the newest fw are very encouraging with many confirming that the phone has been 'transformed', so it might be worth trying that out for a week.

Plus, they are going for a song at the moment so very small initial outlay too.

The P1i will be out soon but I think it will be a bit pricey, for a few months anyway.
