. . . and the fact that the number you listed shows that there are half of the software available for P990 than for P910 (and i don't really care about the time period as i want it now and not in 3 years) indicates that the future is not bright in development.

How old are you? Fifteen? What do you need a business phone for?
We dont need that kind of attitude in here, not so very nice

It took you not one but two phones to realize this?
it took him two phones to realize it because he had hopes like most of the disappointed users. the P990i and M600 have the same platform but quite a different phone. the M600i might be faster then the P990i as i saw it from the W950. and i can perfectly understand him when he's not very satisfied with it.

Apologies for the rather rude tone in my previous post. (Nicotine abstinence.)

No, but wouldn't you agree that the needs of a teenager are different than those of someone in the workplace (business man or whitecollar worker).
Myself, I depend entirely on the bundled PIM and Office software on the P990. And I find the bundled Opera browser more than enough, in fact much better than Microsoft's Pocket IE on my previous WM5 phone (i-mate JasJam).

Ursäkter i mitt förra inlägg. Har just slutat snusa och blir ibland lite stirrig.

I assume that we're still talking what this thread started about. So same platform means the same software availability. Jumping from P990 to M600 would definitely not solve that issue. Either go to a regular "dumb" phone or a different platform (S60, Palm or Windows Mobile). But if you would go to a different smartphone platform you would see that those also have their issues. My JasJam was anything but stable: QWERTY keyboard sometimes stopped working, phone sometimes going mute, phone not waking up from standby mode, A2DP audio of poor quality, etc, etc.

This is to be expected (i.e. lack of software). There are only small number of UIQ3 phones. Yearly sales of WM is around 15 times UIQ3 devices and S60 about 40 times more. If expandability of your smartphone is a priority, then SE UIQ3 devices are not good investment compared to the other platforms.

the UIQ3 certification (or signing) requirement & process puts off some programmer and companies. And the small number of UIQ3 phones did not help. This issue was heavily discussed in forums like SE developers and My-symbian.
with SE rolling out more UIQ3 phones and thus higher, developers would likely to more arttracted to port their software over to UIQ3.
As in my case, apart from magic profile that I missed, I have all the softwares that I need on my P990i.

This is why I'm concerned with SE going the route of using UIQ on Sofia or any other phones for that matter, because for the majority of the public, none of them are willing to pay $10 for a game/app.
SE should really start the development of free apps, or just move on and cut their losses. Move onto Linux or WM5.
UIQ is really of very little benefit to most users.

if ericsson likes to stick with uiq (gui or system)
i'd highly recommend to switch to a linux based system.
like trolltek has a very promising system.
the reason why it would benefit sony ericsson.
if they use a linux basis (kernel) but use the gui of uiq2(3)
they could make a solid and stable system.
by running this open-source os there will be a huge list of compatible software or atlease it's developers will have little trouble porting it.
if a phone like that would hit the marked, i can assure it's sold out before it hit the shelves. cause proble whole linux community will get a SE phone like that.
Motorola is trying to do so with the z8 (if i'm correct) it's based on a linux system. the mistake motorola made is they closed the system. not allowing 3th party appls to work on teh phone.
