The i-phone is just a big hype...SE is the only brand that can get the i-pod quality on its phone and also beat it.....!

Sharp does produce the best quality phone's in my opinion, however it's never going to beat a ipod.
SE just might could, but i think Nokia got best potential to release an ipod killer.
//edit
but why is every (incl. me) talking about an iphone killer???
it's just another phone, proble going to sell good. but it's not that special. there are many better phones when it comes to specs.
it's just the hype and PR of apple who's going to make the iphone a succes. .... but i think many people will be disapointed with the phone.

The thing with the iphone, it might not be as good as whatever phone but, more people are talkign about it than any other phone, apple will sell a shedload of them, and like the ipod the later generations will probably get even more popular.

Couldn't agree more. I think of the Iphone more as a gimmicky phone rather than a true mobile powerhouse and people will get bored with it. Here is an example: Take the Cover Flow feature. If you don't remember what it is, it is when you tilt the phone on the side and you can scroll through the music using the album art as your guide. Seems like a cool feature. No other phone can do that right? Right, but then you step back and think about it after the coolness factor wears off, and you think, wait, when am I ever going to use that? I have owned a w800 for the last 2 and a half years, and I have never once thought about wanting to shuffle through my music by album art. Furthermore, with more people buying songs online(or through P2P networks), I would bet most people have no idea what the cover of any album looks like.
Here might be a better example: The picture features. You can resize them and move them and turn them around. Very impressive when you look at the demo. But then you look and see that you can only take 2 mp pics with no AF. So now I can only mess around with really bad to mediocre quality pics. Not only that, but I can't even send or recieve MMS messages. So now I really can't send or recieve pics easily, so what is the point?
I think at the end of the day, people are going to buy it and love it at first just because it is different. But then people are going to shrug their shoulders and realize that all the new features don't make this phone way better or worse than any other phone, just slightly different to use. Then the downsides will start to show, like no third party apps and no tactile feedback from a keypad, and I will be pretty happy with my w960. Sure, it doesn't have cover flow or other random features that don't do a whole lot, but it does give me my music in an efficient way and I have the keypad if I want to use it as well.

That is what it really is! You are making the point exactly right......
That is the reason why the iPhone will not be a hugh success! Proven technology will preveal in the end... SE has a really strong device. I have used it now for several hours and I love it.
Superb quality. W950i+++ I would make it! It even kills the new HTC Touch thing, device, crap, unbelieveable strang price, spec and marketing strategy......
Nokia is coming with some new stuff, but it will not be ready before iPhone!

Copied from my post in another forum:
Apple iPhone vs Others.. I'm beginning to wonder..
OK, now please forgive me for what will undoubtedly turn into quite a lengthy post, but I've been thinking about this quite alot recently given all the hype, (my broken arm and being stuck around doing very little), demos and most recently the WWDC this week. I'm basically sharing my thoughts, and hoping to hear those of others.
My phone/PDA 'history'.. - If you don't wanna hear this, skip down
As many on here will know, I'm the self styled Sony Ericsson pimp on SCN. I've used Ericsson, and later Sony Ericsson phones for years. I like the UI, accessories, features and innovation. Likewise, I could never get on with Windows Mobile/smartphone/CE/PocketPC or whatever they wanted to call it having had a Symbian (EPOC) PDA as my first device. It was the Ericsson MC218 - a clone of the Psion 5MX - a great machine, fully keyboard and touch display, one which I used for many years. I find Windows based PDA's/Phones have a clunky UI that's not very logical, so have always tended to favour Symbian products. There came a time when I was carrying my MC218, a mobile phone (T610 - which I'm using again at the moment as it happens) and the Ericsson MP3 handsfree that plugged into the base of any Ericsson/SE phone at the time.
MC218:
Carrying 3 devices was 'too much', so I decided to take a fresh look at getting a smartphone having previously had an Ericsson R380 (great innovative product, but no MP3/Camera/colour screen etc). I chose the SE P900 to replace my PDA/MP3 and phone with an all-in-one device. I have to say, it was great, fast, stable and did everything I wanted at the time. I used it for 2 years, but eventually dropped it in favour of a new SE clamshell as it was a bit too big to just keep in your pocket for an everyday phone. The z800 I replaced it with did all the usual sync, mp3 and camera stuff you expect on today's phones, but again wasn't the smallest and I'd never buy a clamshell again as it was a nightmare to open with only one hand! However after 18 months I found myself wanting something more advanced - to move back to the P900 level of functionality with easy to use e-mail, web access and the ability to run things like MSN clients etc on the phone.
This was about 6 months ago, and times had moved on technology wise. I wanted something 'pocketable', feature rich and quite flexible.. I almost went for an SE M600 (below) with it being quite thin but very similar to the P-range given it's Symbian footings. Problem was, it didn't have WIFI (now becoming common) and lacked a camera (not such a big deal for me). There were also lost of stability issues with the latest Symbian and UIQ releases, so I held off..
Enter the iPhone
At this point I'll mention that I'm a 'recent' (3 years) convert to Apple computers. I like the simplicity, ease of use, stability, design and great functionality. I've recently bought my first iPod (30GB 5G), given I'd gone back to my T610 phone and can no longer use my phone for music due to its age. I also like the idea of carrying all my music on one device as given my varied taste I never really know what will take my fancy to listen to - this saves having to hand-pick in advance what I can and can't listen to on the move), and I'm thinking of getting a car kit for it to dispense with CDs.
When the iPhone was announced I thought 'this is it'. A smart device, with and great UI that really advances the phone experience. It combines e-mail, web, phone and music in one, well thought out place. I'm not too fussed that it only has a 2MP camera - I have a decent digicam anyway so it's not like I'm going to use the phone as my only camera. I recently saw the ads for the iPhone on Apples site and once again thought 'yes, I want one of these baby's!' However, I am beginning to wonder..
Firstly, the device announced to date is not 3G capable, so all those would-be purchasers in the EU are obviously waiting to see whether they tweak the spec for the non-US market. Secondly, if I were to own such a device, I would still need my iPod as 8GB is noway near enough for all my music, and I don't like the idea of having to go through my iTunes library and rate my music so that I can limit the sync to the 'better stuff' in my collection. Third, I'm yet to be convinced that a touch screen can replace a keypad completely for e-mails and sms - this is yet to be seen. Fourth, it's a first gen product, and from past experience and continuing trends (R380/P800/P990) vowed never to buy first gen stuff and be the test mule ever again!
Finally, fifth, the big one: The iPhone is being billed as a smartphone. This would mean that it should be capable of viewing and editing docs like Word/Excel files, and should be able to run third party apps like MSN clients and SatNav. The iPhone doesn't support Flash - so in this day and age won't provide the complete web experience as mooted. At the WWDC this week, it was revealed that developers can create their own apps for the iPhone - but they have to be web based and hence accessed through the browser.. EH!? This is starting to sound too limited, and much less smart. Having previously had SatNav on PDA's and in-car, one of the things I want a smartphone for is to offer me is GPS mapping via third party software for occasional use. This is essentially now ruled out with the iPhone. You could argue that the iPhone has built in support for Google maps, but tbh I can't think of the last time I wanted to find (uses TV ad as example) a seafood restaurant just around the corner..
Then there's the price, it's going to be a wounder.. The most I've ever spent on a phone was my P900 - £180 on a 12 month contract, I'd pay that gain, but don't like the sound of the possible limitations discussed above, so would be more reluctant to pay that kind of money in this situation. Having also just come out of the worst 18 months of mobile ownership since I began with Orange in the mid-90's with LodaShite I am never going to sign a contract longer than 12 months again.
Don't get me wrong, I love the UI, the simplicity, the design and the features.. I'm just struggling with the iPhones limitations given its smartphone credentials.
Alternative?
Given these points, I re-read the specs for the forthcoming Sony Ericsson P1. This is an evolved M600 with a camera, WIFI and more memory to resolve the stability issues of the current Symbian release. This device obviously doesn't come in 4 and 8Gb versions, but you can get a 4GB card for it. Yes, it won't hold all my music, but nor will the iPhone, and this will be cheaper and more widely avilable. There is an established base of Symbian apps and it is a true smartphone. OK, it's not as pretty and the UI not as evolutionary, but it will still be ahead of a Windows device in my eyes.
What do you reckon, as I'm torn between 2 products, 2 ideals and 2 brand loyalties
iPhone?
P1i?

That was written before the unveiling of the W960.. TBH, I think I'd still choose the P1 given the semi-qwerty keypad, and the fact neither will replace my iPod.. although the W960 does look nicer

the iphone is like the ipod. overpriced for what you get. just because 90% of the people think it's trendy to have an ipod - and don't give a s... about actual technology - it doesn't make the product better technically. why does everybody compare the music capabilities of MP3 players with ipods? since when is an ipod a benchmark in music playing devices?
the same with the iphone. it might be packed in a nice design - which personally i don't like - and without keypad and absolutely no proven record for an OS that works from apple on a small device like that, i would say that this phone will be a huge success for most of the people because they don't actually understand nothing about technology and just go for the hype.
the W960 will definitely be the better phone and package because you cannot throw away years of development from one company like sony and ericsson and compare it to a newcomer in this field like apple.
i am not a fan of UIQ anymore, but in the end this device will be better than an iphone in technical terms.
well, apart from all discussions..let's wait first and see what that overestimated iphone will do..(not a lot in my opinion)
