If you can wait, I'd suggest going for the P1 or the W960.
I find the P990 quite bulky.
The M600 keyboard is very nice when you get the hang of it.
The W950 keypad is not very good but I'm used to it now.

Its possible but SE have still not ironed out all the bugs in the phone...not a single P990 user is 100% happy with the phone AFAIK.
And SE are planning to stop supporting the phones with no more firmware releases(maybe 1 more firmware update to fix the bugs created by R6) and moving on to P1i and W960i.

if you can take the size, the new e90 is a good option. though double the price of what you may pay for the SE handsets....
If you can wait P1 should be a good one.....
If you are looking for a good smart phone, p990i is not something that can be recommended at this moment...Though its the best one out there in all respects except for the firmware.... so its like the best car without a proper engine..
i would suggest you to have a look at one of the windows based handsets.. Like htc tytn.

You should know bugs in P990 almost dont exists. It is fully stable and functional phone. No single P990 user is 100 percent happy with it only from the memory management side i.e. P990 has reduced multitasking capacity but only reduced not non existing.
Regarding bugs you can see that currently documented ones are spacebar bug, long email bug (very long), and some people reported problem with push email and sound volume in stereo bluetooth (some people).
So if your budget is limited I think you can freely go for P990, you would be more than positively surprised for the money you paid for it.

I think the P990 bug problems have been blown out of proportion. This is probably because what makes our problem really bad is because it's ours, so much so that it's enough for us to voice it out. To others it might mean nothing at all. Taking this into account, 10 small problems may be big ones to the 10 people who reported them, and might mean nothing to 1000 others. These 10 'big' problems posted all over forums would eventually make an impact and create certain impressions. I personally don't have any problems with R6 because all the bugs reported doesn't concern me. I'm just bothered by the space bar bug mainly because SE screwed up the most basic feature- making a call. The feature adds convenience but it doesn't mean there's no other way to make a call. I personally think with all the negative air surrounding the P990, you'll be utterly surprised at how wonderful the device really is
