Yes jools, I have
I've also seen your price comparison posts before and you're absolutely right. But bearing in mind that this guy is looking for a laptop for around £600 - 700, it does fit into the lower end of the market so unless he wants the option of running Mac os, I think he'd get a better machine for his bucks with a PC based notebook, that's all

How about a Insipron 1520,its a pretty good good deal except for processor..
You get a c2d T5250,1G RAM,120GB hdd, GF 8400GS on a santa rosa platform.

i dont want the hassle of installing different OS's, so no apple for me. with the windows thing
i wont be playing games much, maybe just if im out bored maybe, but not often at all.
@shaliron
i missed thursdays green guide

some bargains in there, but then on the other hand some things more expensive. and some custom made no brand ones.....
in regards to the one you saw, the one i listed from dell has a larger hard drive, and a couple hundred cheaper too... i still think its a good deal for its price, is dell reliable people who have used them? i remember the whole battery issue, but im sure thats all in the past now.
i might go to jb hi-fi tomorrow and get some quotes, know couple people there so i get cost price on everything.... see what i can get, should be able to get a good deal. i will also check out the hp employees monthly site with very good prices on their products, just need to get the site off my bros gf. he got his laptop for $2000aud, rrp bout $3500... so fingers crossed ill find one. shouldnt be too hard a task though
if not, guess its the dell... i like the sony's, but little too exspensive for decent specs. just trying to find some pics of the front of the dell now...

Yeah, those DELL deals look great. I'd get the Inspiron 1501. I'm pretty sure the 2GB RAM will make up for the (assumed) lesser processing power of the AMD over the Core2Duo.
And you get the extra 2 year warranty, anti-virus, and free delivery.
But I'll get back to you (with a more definitive answer) regarding the performance differences between the two processors.

Around $1300 looks like a straight choice between a bottom end macbook and a Dell XPS, both are towards the top end of your budget but well worth the extra over the uninspiring Inspiron range IMO, The Macs are not bad value these days with a decent basic spec.

@mweb
dont want a mac

whats so bad about the inspiron series? personal experiences? also considering hp and asus now, or perhaps toshiba but would prefer the other 2. Im currently using my brothers Acer, not sure if i like it, its good, but want to differ from him i think

he says i can have it for $1000aud....
@shaliron
ive been told the diff between dual core and core 2 duo is like the jump from Pentium 3 to P4. speed wise dual core will be fine i think. and i hear AMD is better in laptops? cyco, can you shed some light on this?

Dells are fine if you can spend the moola on configuering them to a decent spec, but by the time your done doing that, you might as well have gone for the next series up, Honestly there are very few duff notebooks available these days, with your budget you should be able to procure something decent WHATEVER the manufacturer.

the dell one i have listed have decent specs, no? the 4th one in particular. would suit me well.
want a laptop mainly to run my site off, so i can check emails/orders etc etc when im out and about,..... and of course personal use so i no longer have to use the desktop pc.
need a minimum 100gb hard drive, and a dedicated graphics chip, minimum 256mb.
