What is happening to SE? Its flagship smart phone sank and it seems that its flagship music phone will also follow the same way.

Most of you guys here seem not having a real W-series phone in your possession. I agree that w800 has not very good sound output, but if you will take w950 - then you will fly away with sound output, especially with better headphones than supplied with it.

W800 sounds were much better than W880 sounds if you remember...
don't know why SE keep on putting stupid features like AutoGainControl, AutoVolumeLeveling and so on...
maybe he does it for safety, but SE needs to know that in order to made Walkman phone famous, "Customer satisfaction" should be made first.
lets wait the upcoming walkman 3. see whether those 2 functions still remains or be repaired.
just my 2 cents

W880 and W950 both have pretty pathetic sound quality considering they are walkman phones. Infact this goes for all W series phones.
N91 is the best in that regard.
fully agree (well, tbh haven't tried w950...)!
i'm not the only member here (some with a lot more technical expertise than me) who will tell you,e.g., that e61 (a phone advertised as a no-fun/all-business blahblah) totally wipes the floor with any w-model re. musicplayer! IT IS T R U E!!!
just as in the early 80's there were plenty of walkmen (even, say, by aiwa etc) that sounded better than sony's walkman, had better built-quality and were loads cheaper...
And yeah: lets not even mention the n91

it would make the w-owners weeeeep to actually listen to that one

I've heard on far too many occasions W950 having the worst quality of all W phones.
My N71, which is anything but a music oriented phone boasts superior audio quality than my old W800.

the megabass is much better on my k750i than the w610i, even the speaker is better on my k750i

If anyone is able to comment on how music sounds, What Hi Fi are the people to do it, their reviews are always spot on, My Hi Fi was bought on their recommendation and you will not get a better sounding Hi Fi this side of £1k.
But yeah, I've never found the

phones to be that good on audio quality, afaik the

phones use digital decryption of the music, which allows you to adjust the bass, mid and treble if you so wish, I think HTC do it differently, they use components rather than software to decrypt the music.....

if you like and know your music and how you want it to sound, you will know that all phones are poor for listening to music. not just

phones. yes there may be better music playback on some phones comapred to that of the

range, but still doesnt mean they are excellent quality. some phones MIGHT just BARELY replace a dedicated music player, thats only if you want to carry one device of course.
in short, dont expect so much from your phone in terms of music playback.
though

phones should have better quality i agree, but most phones ive heard are on par with each other, eg, fairly average.
