i used to have problems sleeping too..... i would that the longer i couldnt sleep for the worse it got..... what i mean is say if i went to bed at 10pm... they every hour id think, thats one less hour sleep etc...... till i got to about 4 or 5 in the morning and i just agve up thinking.... well im gonna be knackered now.... sod it... (this is the pont id generally fall slaeep - so for me the only thing stopping me from sleeping wa my own self worrying about how tired id be - ironic?
so i guess im romomending not hinking about the fact you NEED to sleep - much harder to do than to say tho

i appreciate that....
but a film (dumb and dumber the obvious choice for me) always makes me fall asleep these days...

Exercise! I don't have a problem sleeping but i've started going to the gym more and more the last few weeks, 4/5 times a week and i feel great and go to sleep more quickly and don't wake up in the night either. maybe worth a try plus you'll feel better and have more energy. I wouldn't go anywhere near sleeping pills.

I have a glass of red wine to help me get to sleep, in fact if I don't have a glass of red wine I can't get to sleep!
Hang on, am I posting this in the right thread?

I have a similar problem. I have no problem dropping off to sleep but apparantly I suffer from night terrors. My night terrors seem to be somewhat different though, I actually remember the next morning, what happened. I've punched pillows, shouted at my girlfriend and ran out into my lounge.
I've also had conversations with people in my bedroom, and then realise there is no-one there. If i'm honest and please don't laugh when it happens It feels like an out of body experience, like i'm watching myself. Although I don't instantly remember the next morning, certain things throughout the day trigger flashbacks.
I've considered applying for that study at papworth, maybe they could help you booker.
