As was described in another Esato thread, if you take the picture while in a phone call, the shutter sound is almost silent, it's re-directed to the earphone/headset, at least on my K800i with R1JG001. I believe this is a bug, actually, the programmer did not expect the user to use the camera while in a call, an that may be corrected in newer FW releases.

actually it's been this way since K700 or earlier. So I doubt it's a bug. I heard somewhere that it's to protect hearing (so the shutter doesn't go off in your ear). On K750 it had a thunderous shutter noise, so that would make sense.

Also, there is no sound in the earpiece when you take a photo this way (I just tested on my K800) What you are hearing is the actuall physical shutter sound (on K750, which doesn't have a physical shutter, there is no sound at all) .

Interesting... As I was testing this on my K800i, I did hear a tiny shutter sound, and I just guessed that it came from the speaker, and did not check it any further, but it might as weel have been the real shutter sound, or maybe the xenon flash that made the noise.

Nope, at least not in mine. It is possible to choose between a couple of different shutter sounds, but it cannot be turned off. This may be related to different variants in different markets. Mine is a generic north europe version.

in some countries it's illegal to supress the shutter sound of camera phones (due to privacy concerns). Personally I think it's a load of twaddle, but that's why some governments have legislated against it.
