Thanks for all the explanations so far. Is there a way to realy change 59/5 to 61/3?
Which is better.... the 5 ROM or just 3 ROM, compared to 61/59 RAM ?
My phones are 1. US, 2. Netherland, hence 1 is World 1 and 1 is Netherland generic trade. (and yes, both are original SE, no operator/branding)
So, if I would change us1 to netherland, would that also change the ram/rom or is that a HARDWARE thing with the hardware DPY as Lisa mentioned?
After all, if changing into another cda then world 1 makes that happen, why not, expecially since we cannot expect anymore fe updates anyway. So I am rather stuck with 61 RAM then 59 RAM

You must have smp pro I think. Perhaps it will work with the free version too. open SMP and select the System tap, then scroll to free ram and select that.... it will show RAM, ROM, PAGING FILE size!

Okay, it would be very interesting if people start giving the following info here for a while:
Branded or Unbranded P990i
DPY version and CDA
Firmware Version
using SMP the RAM and ROM sizes !!!
Why, because I just did what I thought I'd never do.... I changed the firmware from my US World1 to Netherland /66 R5A fw!!!
Now I have indeed 61 RAM and 3 ROM !!! Unbelievable but true!
So, now I just wait until Netherland Generc gets the newest and I will have forever 61 RAM !
It is a difference of 1.5 to 2 MB usable more memory compared to the other!
Phantastic! So far all is well. Except for those who wanna do the same, the BACKUP won't work! You have to do every setting, etc. from scratch.
What I did however, I used a backup I did back when world1 had the R5A fw and that one worked fine. So at least all info, settings, etc. from then was restored!
Regards and thanks to Lisa who pointed out that this might relate to the organizer which is totally true. I have just proven it!
In any case, anyone trying this, remember, you can screw up your phone forever if you are sloppy and make any mistake!!!
In any case... it CAN be done!
Regards

I know... the only other question is what is that ROM exactly for?!? Is it better to have 5MB instead of 3MB or is it better to have 61MB onstead of only 59MB of RAM? Anybody????
I mean as it looks SE could have given us all 2 more MBs of RAM if they wanted!!!

59/5, WG 1. On the box it says TR/RU next to the DPY numbers, hw v. is R8A, fw R6D28.
I remember that the proto versions had some extra debugging programs, since the retail versions don't have those I wonder what the 5 MB is used for.
Could it be like the boot sector of the hard disk or phone related info like IMEI numbers?
It would be interesting if this could be tweaked with something like a disk partition program for PCs. We may just find a MB or 2 of unused RAM overlooked by SE.
