P1i is strickly an improved P990i, so actually, unless u really like P990i but dissappoint with its RAM management, may be P1i is the answer, provided u don't mind the semi-qwerty keyboard and a badged 3.2MP, imo not a great improvement over the old 2MP on the P990i

but, that is just me.....

I'm totally satisfied with mine so far. Nothing what so ever to complain about. Wi-Fi took some setting up but it works now.

The P1i is certainly not perfect but there is no perfect smartphone out there right now. The weakness of the P1i for me would be the camera and the overall speed. Other than that the build quality, stability, battery life, memory for multi-tasking are all excellent. I've had a P990 and that really had bad memory problems, to say the P1i is a gen2 P990 is correct and in that respect it is an excellent phone.

I've had the N95 and compared to that the P1i is a more acceptable compromise overall. I don't know if the E90 is better but I find it too big and heavy and after my last experience with Nokia I'm a bit allergic to them right now.

I see the iPhone as having a huge potential but seriously lacking a lot of basic functions. But if Apple can get up to speed really quickly and get it right in gen 2 or gen 3, I'd watch out for that as the near perfect smartphone.

Just read the review and I must say I DO agree with various points in it but in the end I think it's too harsh.

It's also a matter of taste and preferences. I wanted a smartphone which was not too big, had a qwerty keyboard, camera, touchscreen. There simply weren't too many alternatives. N95 was also an interesting option but in the end the lack of touchscreen and qwerty keys (as well as the bad battery like and average build quality) put me off. All in all the P1i offered the most.

I find I hardly need the stylus and can manage most things with scrollwheel and fingers just fine (although a dpad WOULD be nice indeed). Technical limitations were known from the start. A faster cpu would be nice but I actually find it pretty responsive (especially with the apps loaded in memory).

Apart from camera (greenish tint and other 'problems') I haven't been disappointed with anything in the P1i and hopefully things will be improved in future firmwares...

The camera is still good though, despite the flaws. I find it very useable. People expect too much IMO.

Guess it's because I came from the Nokia N73. Although the P1i cam is a lot faster the N73 took the better pics. Also the greenish tint is an issue and I feel that the auto lighting isn't too good. (Auto flash would be nice too )

Also, night mode doesn't work on my camera. Resulting pictures are the same with and without night mode. Anybody else with the same experience?

Yes, most of the cameras faults seem to be in low lighting conditions, I also don't see much of difference in night mode, I think it needs to be fixed via firmware. Overall, the camera is not horrible nor defective but it needs to be improved. Hope its something that can be done via firmware. I'm getting pretty good pictures when the lighting conditions are good.
