OK guys, it can't be the router because my computer is fine. If I can't navigate to the internet then I can't download anything to it. Plus I don't have a USB drive to transfer the installs.
Cheers

Have you checked the hosts file? Navigate to here:
c:windows\system32\drivers\etc and make sure that hidden files are visible in the folder options dialogue.
Look for a file called 'hosts' (it doesn't have a file extension), right click on it and open with notepad. If you can't find it, just do an all files search for 'hosts'.
You should see something like this:
# Copyright (c) 1998 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP stack for Windows98
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
# For example:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
If there are any other entries below '127.0.0.1 localhost' just delete them so that the hosts file ends up looking exactly like it does above. Then, save it (using 'save as' instead of save) making sure that you select 'all files' instead of 'text documents' in the save as dialogue.
Another thought, and it sounds obvious I know, but have you checked 'add / remove programs' in control panel? FON is not spyware and so if it's software that's causing the redirect, it shouldn't be hidden.
Next up, how is your friend's wireless connection managed? Is it using the built in windows wireless manager or third party software? If it's third party, try switching it off and using the windows manager instead.

I'll see if it works first before I start wearing my underpants outside my trousers!
Personally, I'd take it back to the repair guy and ask him what the hell he's done to it

Cheers cycovision, I tried everything but nothing worked, so I'm going to do a system restore, if that doesn't work, its going out the window! Wish she'd bought a mac...
Cheers

If you do find the solution, don't forget to post it here! There's nothing on google about it (well I couldn't find anything anyway) so it would be useful to know

Well the system restore worked, but now we seem to have lost all of teh SP2 features, eg. wifi. SO this is really bloody annoying. The only way to connect to the web is by ethernet... I hate windows!
