Then you have only left to try a different stick in your phone and see if the 'reader' in your phone is malfunctioning. If not, then get a new stick.

I also know that most of the times (and in this case) both sticks are made in the same factory by under different brands. It might not be so with Sony and Sandisk but usually it's the same thing. My M600i's M2 64 MB just died on me after just 8 months of use, so it just happened. Why do you find it so hard to believe?I mean, that's why you have 5 years of warranty on the card. Or, if you don't, then just get over it and get on with your life.Look at the bright side: you now have the chance to get yourself a bigger, cheaper MS!

Ebay is a well known place for fake memory sticks, but you may find genuine pieces too..
So it's not ebay, but the seller whom you have to trust..

EXACTLY !!! And, look at ebays fake memory stick site, they explain it pretty good (BUT AGAIN, NOT eBAY BUT USERS!!!).
I could not find any real one recently at ebay USA. One can say 90% or more are plain and simple fake ones!!!
