I find it annoying that you can't get any form of overview of the folders, to view sub-folders etc. The current 'folder' system on the P1i behaves much more like a tag system, like with Google Mail's tags. You can only view the currently selected folder, and to change folders you have to navigate through menus. It would be nice if there was a quicker, 'slicker' method.
I haven't tried the 3rd party message managing apps, but I believe they only assign folders/tags to messages - do they show you the folders?
In my Hotmail account I have some folders where certain messages are automatically saved to. When I download them on my P1i with POP3 (using forwarding to Google), all the messages go to my inbox and I have to sort through all the messages that I would rather be in other folders and not in the main view. However, if I set up rules with 3rd party apps to automatically move these messages, I wouldn't be able to see clearly which folders had how many new messages, just a new message total.

@koto: I have that one and it's a great app. I have only one problem with it: it's not autostarting which means that each time I restart (and it happens every 2 days at least), I have to open MMM and go to preferences in order to enable the rules and that's not good. I mean, I have to manually start a few programs.
The good part is that you don't have to keep that MMM active - you can kill the program and the rules remain active. That's the good part cuz there's not enough mamory in the P990i as it is...
Hope this helps.
You can use BootMan

to autostart programs when your phone starts up. It does slow down the boot speed though which is annoying so I guess you just have to weigh up your priorities.

The last time I checked it was impossible to use Bootman as Se implemented some security measures on later FWs and they are incompatible with this app.
