scratching the contact with a pin is the last thing you want to do, but it sounds like it's the last thing you tried so I guess that's ok
Scratching the contact will only make a clean connection less likely.
But I hear you, it's just that no-one had actually mentioned cleaning so I thought maybe that's all the problem is! Obviously it's not that though, and I admit I have no idea what the problem might be.
Have you tried a master reset, or update firmware? Just as a "just in case" thing. I've found master resets etc to often solve niggly little problems. I know it's a long shot, but maybe it's worth a try.
