Thanks for all the info.
I'll be out for 3 days, but when I return I plan to take a good look at the files in that System\\Mail\\ folder.
Maybe I can brute force extract them using a C++ program on the PC and convert the SMS to TXT, and the MMS to HTML.
MMS would never be movable because they are in fact closer to e-mail than SMS, and the sim card has no storage for that (MMS are sent/retrieved via GPRS)

Keep us posted as well LAU. Who knows.. you may be the first to write a program that can export SMS/MMS from an older UIQ phone, and import them into a newer UIQ phone.
I'd be willing to pay for that app!!!

For SMS a similar program already exists:
http://shop.my-symbian.com/Pl[....]171&catalog=20&topSectionId=-1
There is also this for MMSand email:
http://shop.my-symbian.com/Pl[....]d=0&catalog=20&topSectionId=-1
However it stores it as a text file so I guess you would loose a lot of information from the MMS.

Yes!!!
I'm glad to inform you all that the *trial* version of Best MessageStorer for UIQ (second link in a post above) is 100% functional for 15 days and exported ALL my SMS and MMS from my old P910 to TXT files.
I'm quite satisfied with the result. It even sorted the messages.
Of course it's not a real export to the P990, but it's good enough for me.
Thank you all for the support.
PS: Kinda silly the guys from Best MessageStorer letting us do that with their trial version! For me it was a trial and final! lol

So all SMS from your P910i were transferred to the SMS folder of the P990/P1?
What about the exported MMS? Was it just the text included? Or even the embedded photos/audio?
That's great news!!!

No, I said it exported «to TXT files»
The MMS are not so great. Since they are exported to TXT files, most MMS were exported almost empty as they were simply photo messages.
Anyway, the photos used on the MMS are always exported to the photos folder, so you don't miss anything special.
Just grab the exported TXTs and the photos/movies on the photos folder and send them to the new phone.
Anytime you need, you can search the TXT for old SMS/MMS.
It's not perfect, but it's good enough for me
