there is a centre press button, but it's above the "up" button (where normally the centre softkey is).

Yeah, I knew there was a centre softkey, but there just isn't a button in the middle of the dpad for when you play games like tennis, when you need to press the centre button at the same time as when you're running/moving. It's not convenient having to move your finger off the dpad to move up to the centre softkey.

I never had problems with joysticks that couldn't be fixed with cleaning, and imho, they are a virtual necessity for high action gaming.
I'm not saying there wasn't a problem - K750 did have a joystick weakness and it had to be handled with care and cleaned regularly to ensure it didn't fail early (mind you I only had to clean mine once in two year). But the K800 joystick seems to have resolved whatever issue the K750 had.
I'm still curious about the K850 dpad and gaming - I'll wait until I can test it in an actual game before drawing any conclusions. I think, that most of the time it shouldn't be much worse than a standard dpad. Hopefully
Also, I think SE have reasoned that people who like the K850 will be less interested in gaming than java productivity applications. In my case this is sort of true - I have about 80 java apps and about 30 games installed on my K800. Still I have some cool games that I'm a bit worried may be hard to play.

i hardly ever play games on my phone.last time i checked,i had only one game.so playing games on the k850i wont be a biggy,maybe it might even change ma perception of playing games on mobiles...

I just had a thought on gaming: the "5" key is often used as the "fire" key, so perhaps the centre press in java will be the 5 key? Hence you could use the 5 key instead of the top middle softkey for centre press?
ON the K800, the Galaga java game uses the 5 key (as well as centre press joystick), but Airwarrior doesn't.

It's up to what the makers of the game do. The games have to be written so that 5 means centre.
But remember, 2 also means up, so that is not going to help during gameplay.
