Hi all,
You don't ever activate anything, even if you do press hard on the screen. It is only due to the sheer mass of your face, the touch screen uses different technology to something like heat sensitive touch pad i.e. mouse/prada etc.
As for the screen, I'm really careless with my phone so I have purchased a Jessops screen protector. Terrific for people who use their nails/finger as a stylus.

I think I've touched the screen with my ear/side of face once or twice during a call, but literally only once or twice out of all calls made to date, and that was ages ago. It's really not a problem and you shouldn't worry about it when considering this phone.

Nay, I don't push the phone into my face!
All I ever did was brush the bottom of the screen with the bottom of my ear, and that was enough for the phone to go off and do what it wanted!
I'm torn now though. I dont know whether or not to go for the P1i, or the W960i when it comes out. I'm leaning more towards this phone, although my decision will be finalised when I know:
a) How good the battery life is..
b) How easy the keys are to text with. (I understand it'd take a bit of time getting used to!)

a) Good. Better than P910 and most WM6.
b) Less than 1 week typing a few sms a day plus a few posts on forums a day.

I can get 4 hrs talk time from 1 full charge, the reserve time (when the bottom light flashes red) is about another hour.
Typing is really really easy even with my qwertz keyboard (from Switzerland) I exposed myself to a daily dose of IM+ so I can increase the speed and accuracy. I can get about 20 words per minute roughly.
SE should make a typing game for these devises, it's highly addictive.

I'm so close to getting one of these now!
Gonna go into o2 tomorrow and actually have a decent look at the phone. One last question...
How long would the phone last if I used it as an MP3 player as well as a phone? Would it last as long as the w960i? I would assume not quite as well... but more or less the same longevity?

I'd have to agree about the typing being addictive! Since I've had this phone, I find that most of the SMS messages that I send out end up over the 1 msg length.

I can't help it!

I don't have the problem mentioned. I do find that the phone automatically unlocks the keyboard and screen when a call is incoming. Since the phone is usually in my pocket, when I take it out of my pocket with the unlocked screen it's easy to touch one of the soft-keys and either accept or reject the call accidentally.

one thing that will need to get used to, especially if you are well accustomed on using the navigation key, is the up down left right and select. in most phones its all in one section in the middle of the phone (called the navigation pad) in p1i, th eup and down is in the scroll wheel on the top left of the phone, the left and right is in the bottom keys of the phone, and the select is in the touchscreen. like here on the image
but then again, p1i is intended to be used with 2 hands and/or stylus. if you accept that then theres no problem adjusting to it

Not an issue for me. Could have to do with the fact that I have my phone set to lock and go into power save mode rather quickly, so when I do receive a call all functions outside of those related to the call are unavailable.
I also tend to hold the phone angled away from my face with my ear only touching the speaker portion.
