I have the creative ep630's, a rebranded version of cx300, very good but only marginally better than the HPM-70 headset, which itself is based on Sony ex71s.

So I ended up sticking with the HPM70 set, since the cord length is more manageable.

@max, I'm using the Creative EP630s too, but I'm not sure they're really rebranded CX300s as I've actually read some reviews online and they were inconclusive, though a large number of them feel that they're different. Having tried both of them, I personally feel that they don't sound the same. However, at 1/3 the price of the CX300s, I must say the EP630s are worth getting.

I've got the CX300's in white...they are brill quality and better than HPM-70 although i do find the HPM-70 have more "pumping" bass

actually I find the ep630's lacking in bass. This is another thing that there is divided opinoin about. Of many ep630 reviews I've read, opinion seems devided over whether they are 1. lacking or better in bass and 2. whether they soundthe same as cx300!

Who knows? For myself I definitely feel they have less bass than the HPM70's. Maybe people's ears hear it differently?

Just try the PX100..AWESOME BASS...Low,powerful,everything.Sweet mids, crispy heights...You won't find better phones for portable listening.(of that class).

I said i'm not into IEMs...and the other day I bought UE triple.fi 10 pro plugs
Really awesome, but not as low bass as the PX100s. But its normal for that class phones.
Though everything else is in its place,+ not that uncomfortable.

But PX100 are still the main headphones for me.

no offense bro but are you sure you got the original ep630? there are many knockoffs out there even in reputable online shops, i asked because some of my friends who are audio fanatics (who buy USD100-200 earphones) do not like the ep630 mainly because of too much bass, one reason i got it actually coz i luv the extra bass on my music, which i didnt get on my hpm70 that's why i upgraded.... nyway music is definitely subjective, cheers!

I didn't buy online, I got it from dick smith, they don't carry knock offs!

I can point to posts at head-fi and other forums where experienced audio fanatics argue both cases, so I don't know who to believe except that to my own ears the ep630 sounds tinnier than the HPM70.

Still great headsets, and nice clear sound. I'm not a base nut anyway, but it's just the HPM70 has shorter cables and is way easier when riding, running etc to manage. Otherwise I'd probably use the ep630 regularly

Yup, there's no clear answer, just go with our ears I guess. But max is right, the ep630s do seem to have more clarity as compared to bass. And I too, prefer a good balance instead of overpowering bass. Most of the time I leave the equalizer turned off anyway.
