I have to go with JC White, the suction arms from markets are remarkably versatile and generaly dont cost more than a fiver. Far better than butchering your car interior which will cost you dear when you come to sell your vehicle!
I have been using mine for two years now best £5 I ever spent.

As for incompatibility dont be suprised, this is we are talking about I have had three types of charger since I have been wit them!and dont forget sony's record for changing storage media. Memory stick, doe, duo pro and now M2! SD would have been so much simpler, but so much less profitable.

Don't get me wrong, but once you get used to have the holder on the dashboard, you'll start looking at those holders with suction to the windshield as the most ugly thing a guy can put in a car!

While these are there for every car behind yours to see that you are using a smartphone (specially at night with Tom Tom since the backlight is on), the dashboard ones are the most discrete it can get.
I can even type an SMS while stopped in a red light in such a discrete way, that not even police can pick me up.
In the dashboard nobody can see you are using the phone, and that's the beauty of it.

Also, understand this:
The P1 holder has connectors on it! It means you can always have it connected both to the cigarette lighter and a handsfree - no hassles!
Once you put the phone in the holder, it starts charging and changes to handsfree mode!
It's beautiful!

Besides, why are you so worried about 2 or 4 very small holes for screws?? I mean, is not your car? Or are you sparing your car for the future owner to enjoy it?
Nobody gives a damn about those holes in the dashboard when selling you car --- personal experience!
Enjoy your car, and do it with style. Have fun.

By the way, the P1 car holder - it seems - can not be found on stores in most southern Europe, but at least on UK and Germany is available.

I agree with LAU... although the solution I've found that I like is 3M's VHB double sided tape (This is supposedly for permanent fixtures, stronger than their "Scotch" brand double sided tape..harder to remove, but removes cleaner). You may also use 3M's Automotive Moulding Tape (This is used to attach moulding strips to the exterior of your car)

I don't mind drilling holes in my car... IF I keep a phone long enough. Since I keep changing phones, that's actually the reason I don't like drilling holes..since not all carkits mount well the same way.

Sorry but as my brother in law is a manager of a used car company, I can assure you as a point of fact, buyers do indeed take notice of those holes!!!

As for text messages in cars at anytime its a no no sorry

In the 2 (real) examples I gave you no holes were made in the dashboard. One was in a false button, and the other the screws were forced thru the union of 2 panels of the dashboard.

How about using a http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/cell-phone-headsets/m/3295917/ which you can also use outside your car? Why you people like to spend your money on some things you can replace easier?!

I fitted my HCH-72 last night - I wanted it attached in the right place for viewing TomTom. I had to make up a metal bracket (simple bit of aluminium bent and drilled) which I then screwed into the underside of the instrument cowling - this means the holes won't be too visible when I come to remove it.

Couple of pics on my P1 Blog
