@flawedL:

the orange backlight that illuminates the keypad is not IN the keypad itself. the keypad sits on another part of the phone called the keypad PCB. this PCB thing is what's responsible for the orange backlight since it contains the LEDs/lights/bulbs.

i'm not sure if this can be done like in old Nokia monochrome units of yore where these LED lights/bulbs are routinely replaced by some of our local technicians here. you must also consider if this replacement would affect the ambient light sensing feature of the W810i as i think the bulbs themselves are in synch with this feature (unless i'm mistaken).

yup, i agree with you and definitely would also want the whitish glow of the K750i's keys on my Fusion White 810i... that would surely be a perfect combination!

cheers, mate!

ya, i knew it was in the keypad pcb, but wondering if any change in this pad will leave us with functionality and a change from the orange disaster... esp as I am modding mine Silver/Black. I'm even trying to find the piece on bottom of the phone (face side) that I can customize (IE where mine says "Cingular" or the walkman logo is

if you don't want the ambient-light sensing feature, then i think you can actually have the orange LEDs replaced. of course, this is your decision - just wanted to be clear

upon closer examination, they actually look like common LEDs that are available at electronic shops. if you are really dead-serious about this, how about replacing these oranges with the actual K750i's whites?

try looking at cnn.cn for the K750i keypad PCB part where you can get its white LEDs to replace your W810i's orange LEDs.

please try to post some live pics later of your pet project. thanks.

cheers and goodluck!
