i wonder why anyone would need to turn off the phone...there is a flight mode for gods sake

regarding the alarms not playing when UIQ phones are off, well, thatīs a well known characteristic, if you donīt like it and think it is a huge deal - donīt buy it

there are far better things to which for...

maybe because power off consumes less power when in flight-mode.

actually its simple as this, other smartphone call if "phone off" SE calls it "flight mode" its a mode where the phone module is off but the PDA function is on. turning off everything including the PDA module will result in no alarm function whatsoever.

i turn off my phone to save on power.
i do like to stress though that i'm not affected by the alarms feature of UIQ phones.

I'm not sure if the lack of call recording is SE being paranoid or just plain incompetent. This option was never available for any of the SE Px smartphones but was available in the K750. So I'm guessing that SE just wasn't able to incorporate this into their UIQ phones and other third party programmers couldn't do it either for lack of documentation. I suppose it could also be a hw deficiency.
About the alarm, remember that you definitely have more options (such as alarm music) which you lose if you have alarm capability when phone turned off.

The P1i is incredible at saving battery power... when just left on standby, it hardly eats any power at all (8 hours on standyby eats only about 2% battery life) If you don't want to receive calls or messages while asleep, just go to Flight mode.

I get an average of 3 days with my P1i, never having to turn it off.

My old R520 had the alarm function that would work even when the phone was off. But I never really saw much use for it back then since I'd never turn off that phone either (That was an amazing phone, 4 days standby with the thin battery... over 2 weeks with the extended battery)

What I do wish they'd bring back were the profiles... even just a simple "auto switch to silent" tick box when setting an appointment. Are there any apps for the P1i that allows auto silent switching when setting a new calendar appointment?
