I had P900/P910/P990 and now P1. First two are good, stable and reliable (specialy P910) but P990 brought a totally new dimension to P series, it was IMO 7 mile jump forward and I enjoyed the newly introduced features so much (wifi, 2mp camera, qwerty, beautiful brilliant screen, full html internet with download, landscape office and browsing, usb mass storage, 4gb external memory, bluetooth stereo, VOIP, etc.) The only real shortcoming was low amount of ram. Then came P1, the real King:-). Pocket size, fantastic built quality, screen visible on the sun, stylus perfect for hand, multitasking beast-simply amazing how many apps work simultaneously, surprisingly fast, 3mp camera, more internal memory, great battery life. So my advice is eather P990 with the latest fw or P1.

Hey,
personally would advice P990
with WorldGeneric.
Especially with dual-hardware construction, Flip open/close,
It's a huge advantage,
Can be used one handed and with touch screen.
Also separate lock key,
and Search through contacts (missing in P1).
P990 as for me is rock stable.

Totally agree! And contrary to many others, I have the World1 and CAN indeed listen to music and go online! Can also listen to music and make pictures, all at the same time!

P1 as a candy stick should not even be named a 'P'

For that price range, definitely P990.
But beware, there are good P990s and there are bad P990s, so either way try to get one that still has some warranty left on it.

Function-wise, the P990 does everything that P1 is able to do, just that P1 has a 3mp camera which IMO is not much different than the 2mp quality P990 has, you can compare the pics in their respective threads on this forum. I'm a happy P990 user mainly because of its flip which gives true one-handed operation (and Swiss Manager Pro has definitely given more edge to this feature), something no PDA/PDA phone in the market has. I haven't been tempted to upgrade at all (been tempted by other models/ brands, but they all seem like a downgrade) since I bought it in October last year, solid as a rock, have lost it to the pool once (submerged for a whole minute and the only thing not functioning was the camera) and replaced it with another. Biggest drawback is that you have to restart the phone once in a couple of days if you'd like to maintain its multitasking capability since the memory is relatively low for such a powerful device. The latest firmware is stable enough even for the most demanding users, but if you expect to have a particular specialized feature, be informed that firmware support was stopped before it really matured (meaning, some features still don't work like AF for the RDS function, etc). Another downside to the P990 is that your life would have to revolve around the phone in the initial stages of ownership, mainly because the maintenance is probably very different than what you're used to.

The question I really have as a current P900 user is. Can you make a one handed call with a P1 as you can with the Pxx0 series that have a flip?

I always make calls with one hand:-) For me one hand usage of P1 is very easy. It's small and perfectly fits hand so combination of jog, qwerty and touch screen (thumb press) make it very easy.

I agree, get a P1, it seems to be the most stable/best featured of the UIQ3 devices. I wouldn't bother with the p990, speaking from bitter experience, I found it to be a shoddy implementation of the system that never should have left SE's R&D department.

Admittedly, I think I had a bad example that seemed to crash more often than most, but it seemed this was not an uncommon experience, so I wouldn't risk the chance of getting a virtually unusable device...

Thanks for all the feedback guys... it's fantastic to get so much user experience to think about

Funnily enough - I think I'm still in pretty much the same position... I'd settle for any of the 3 at a good price for a good example depending on which one - let the missus try it and see where we go from there...
