Hicks, I don't suppose you bought your P1i from play.com in the UK did you? I got mine before xmas and it's an arabic version with UK language also. I was concerned it was a grey import and sure enough Sony Ericsson confirmed over the phone it was arabic and NOT supported by a UK warranty! and would have to be sent to the united arabic emirates service centre if a fault developed!

You can imagine I was straight onto play, who to be fair didnt argue, confirmed it was indeed arabic and that they source the handsets from wherever is best value! They did however assure me that they themselves would handle any warranty issues.
Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

I bought a P1i about two weeks ago and used the Sony Update Service to upgrade the phone. Unfortunately it offered only one upgrade option which was Generic Arabic (I'm a UK user). I installed this and all seems to work OK except when I'm typing. The text screen pops up at the top right hand side of the screen (the one where you get options per key?) and most of the options are arabic.

I cannot read arabic. Is there any way to disable this? I've ensured that my first language is English UK and I've tried setting the second language to none and English US...

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That's interesting. I bought mine from MobileExpress online. No doubt they do something similar to play.com..!

Just hope nothing ever goes wrong with it *touches wood*

You also can check the solution in this thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=97323 to change the keyboard layout to QWERTY in case the keyboard writes in arabic....
