Well it might be the cause but still, when you press , there are other signs there that are universally known like * = [] {} % etc. which should be available for all languages, i think... Try to write in different programs e.g notes, messages, calendar and also try various key combinations using the ALT button, I'm sure it's supposed to work somehow

@Hicks
Check control panel->device->text input
Handwriting should be set to either keyboard only OR handwriting. Set to "None" then you don't get any of the multi-key prompts in any apps when using the p1 keyboard.
Don't know why, but there you go

I do get a lot of the 'normal' characters by doing this. For example if I press 'e' I get : ee _ : / @ ( ) - (backward ?) ! " , ; (funny character) then 1.
However, I still can't get a £ sign. I think this arabic firmware is the cause. On other keys (say Y) I just get a bunch of arabic characters, then a 2.
@ pnf1973
Mine was set to keyboard....

If you get the normal signs then most likely it' due to some arabic localisation... Why not change your firmware with XS++ ? Or at least you could ask the guys at the service to change your language or maybe you could even install a language pack yourself,if it's available try it

Well, i spent 5 hours last night and probably 2 hours today, and I successfully changed my firmware using XS++ to Generic World 1.
This in itself was straight forward. However it took me ages to get my software back properly- despite backing up my data before hand.
So in summary, it was my firmware that was causing the problem for anybody else who might stumble across this thread looking for answers.
Thanks for your comments/ help guys
